AndeeeH Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 The first Gals. had Ford VXT-75 manual boxes and VW autos. Quote
Rusty Nail Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I know that my 2002 MkII TDi has a VW 6speed box - but the parts are still cheaper from Ford than from VW even though the Ford box contains VW parts .... How? Why? Who knows but I'm happier its that way than the other. Quote
tim-spam Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 Actually, in my experience, VW is usually cheaper than Ford for spares - they appear to know a lot more about the car as well. Quote

AndeeeH Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 As the OP has a; ''96 1.9 TDI 90hp GLX (1Z Engine)' TIS informs us of the following: "From the third quarter of 1995 the new Ford Galaxy will be progressivly introduced into all markets. The principal features of the Ford Galaxy are as follows: -- 2,0 l DOHC (Ford), 2,8 l V6 (VW) petrol engines and 1,9 l TDI (VW) diesel engine. -- VXT-75, 5 speed manual transmission (Ford). -- AG4, 4 speed automatic transmission (VW). The VXT 75 transmission used in the Galaxy is based on the well-known MTX 75 transmission." The MTX 75 gearbox was standard fit in Escorts and Mondeos. Quote

mrchipz Posted October 21, 2007 Author Report Posted October 21, 2007 Torque-ing of gearboxes :( I have a noisy box between 1000-2000rpm. Always been there. Not changed over last 18 months 30k.Thought it might be clutch release bearing myself, a mech rekoned it would be clutch thrash.Me, like an idiot, didn't ask what that meant. Can anyone suggest anything.
