big_kev Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Ok, new Comapny Golf turned up today to replace the older identical model. Noticed when driving that the Cruise Control Light actually works properly....! I have had the previous Golf and also for a short period of time have driven MK2 Galaxies and Sharans. All these vehicles have never had a properly working Cruise Control Light. What has been happening ( and I believed this to be normal at the time ) is that when you switch the toggle switch on the stalk to "on" the light comes on and when you switch it to "off" the light goes off. This has been independent of whether the cruise control has been set, unset or whatever and has just been working in synch with the on/off switch. It has always been like this on all the VW based vehicles I have driven. However on this latest Golf the cruise control light only comes on when the cruise is "set" as soon as you touch the brake or clutch the cruise control light goes out and doesn't come back on until you either "set" or "restore" the speed...ie it works the way I would have expected it too if I had never driven these previous vehicles. How does everyone elses light work ? ( obviously some models do not have this light anyway ). Quote
mumof4 Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Nah, mine don't. Think it might have something to do with the fact that i dont have cruise control on my sooperdooper veccy :25: Quote
adrianf. Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 My light comes on and goes off with the switch. Adrian. Quote
Charlie Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 The cruise control light on my galaxy has never worked!! but would expect it to come on when "set" or "resume" is used Quote
MrT Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 This was discussed on the forum a long time ago and if I remember, the early Mk2s had the warning light fitted and it was meant work (my 2.8 is in this state) but was disabled but it should be possible to enable it with VAG-COM. I don't think exactly how to enable it was ever posted. If anyone has worked out how to do this I would love to know. Quote
mumof4 Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 was gonna say, on my MKII a light never came on when cruise control was set....mine was an early MKII,built may 2000 and registered jan 20001.To be honest never even knew a light was supposed to come on. Quote

The earlier discussions were related to the light working or not........do a search for 11463 ....has been posted several times. This current topic question relates to the light not working correctly....eg it comes on with the on/off switch rather than with the set/resume button. Quote

Do you mean you actually look at your warning lights, Pet ? Quote
mumof4 Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 Only had one come up on the veccy so far, thats the refuel one..pretty cool as i can see how much is left in the tank and then it starts flashing at me when i have about a litre left. But yep..i surely do look to see which lights are on..least i know what the handbrake one looks like  Quote
insider Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 I've driven Mondeos with cruise control and the light only comes on when it is active, i.e. set / resume. It goes off again when the brake or clutch pedal is pressed. Quote

As far as I know 11463 is for activating the cruise control and the question of how to enable the light when the cruise control is already enabled has never been answered. I really would like to know after all these years how it can be done. Quote

Rusty Nail Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 So should mine work or not then? It has never worked. Since owning the vehicle I have always wondered if it should or shouldn't. I too have driven mondeo's where the light has worked - is it a Galaxy thing? Can it be made to work? B)I know it isn't an important feature but it would be nice to have things working Quote
NikpV Posted October 16, 2007 Report Posted October 16, 2007 the light on our 2001 dash did not work but when the instrument cluster was replaced in 2004 the light miraculously worked - for what use it is !! Quote

I'm not really sure - maybe it is just there to remind you that you are / can drive at a constant speed without concentrating on what you're doing???? May be it is just there to help light the interior at night so you can read better??? I think your guess is as good as the next man's / womans (don't want to be sexist) B) Quote
