I want to change my standard Headlight and Main Beam bulbs to the "Brighter ones" as even though i now have a 2006 Mkll model, the lights are still dim

I know that it is H7 for dipped beam and H1 for Main beam but which make do you recommend

I have seen Phillips H7 Premium @

The vision plus is the best of these.

I will leave others to debate the issue of "brighter" headlights......there has been some disagreement on this.

The best legal bulbs....in order......

Philips Xtreme Power +80%

Philips Vision Plus +50%

Osram SilverStar + 50%

Note that factory fit are probably Philips/Osram +30% bulbs. The above bulbs are whiter and a bit brighter but don't expect a dramatic difference apart from being about

Ok I lied....I will comment.

However please visit the site below for accurate information on lights...

The truth about headlights

Obviously this is different from the cowboys trying to sell you these things...

Thanks for info so far

I changed the standard bulbs on my 2002 model for brighter ones and did notice a big difference in terms of distance of light improvement, and a whiter light.

Only problem was i forgot to remove these and replace with original bulbs before i traded it in ;)

That was 4 years ago, and i can't remember which bulbs i bought, hence the question

I had hoped the 2006 model would have improved the "brightness" of the headlights, but i still find them to be of a yellow glow, and distance in front of the car for the light beam is poor (and i have tried the up and down headlight adjuster roller thing by the steering wheel)

Any other thoughts please post

Thanks

Not knowing much about headlights and bulbs....and since you did ask for thoughts..and i know mine is way off topic..which technically i shouldnt post.....so i wont..all i can say is get bright ones...not the bright blue ones though as they dazzle me on the roads.

Also...havent they got to be self levelling ones or something??..i know there was quite an extensive thread on bulbs done not so long ago.

Some of the vendors advertising on the link that MO4 provides state "HID conversion kit" when in fact all they are selling you are halogen lamp bulbs. They are committing an offence under the trade description act.

It is illegal to fit an aftermarket HID kit, read the DOT information for the reasons, and don't believe the ebay or chinese twaddle about their kit being euro compliant because it ain't.

"Blue" bulbs are just ordinary bulbs with a blue coating on them. This has 2 effects - it filters out the longer wavelength light to give a "whiter" appearance and it also make the bulb less efficient, so dimmer! If overdone, the light output may appear blue, in which case you are committing an offence as use of external blue lights on motor vehicles is permitted only by the police and emergency services, and you could, in theory, be nicked.

Ahh..i shall remove the link then.

Can i ask....why do i sometimes see at night headlights that are very bright and they appear blue?i dont mean a dark blue but like a very bright blueish beam?

Sometimes i can be dazzled by oncoming cars whom i think have main headlights on when they dont...i know this as i will flash them and then they flash back..to show that they dont have mains on.When that happens i have to slow down till i can see properly.Would these peeps then have fitted illegal bulbs?.Its one of the reasons why im not too fond of driving at night.

[Please read....Blue Headlight Bulbs

what are you on about? that site is based on info in the USA not the UK where the laws are totally different!

Which laws ........"the laws of physics"....."the laws of nature" ?

I appreciatte that some of the Laws have differences...not "totally different"...it is illegal in the USA to blind oncoming drivers with incorrectly adjusted headlights...."totally different" would mean it is ok in the UK to do this ...I think not.

The differences in the laws are fairly minor in most cases.

Also I suggest you fully read the page linked to ( and some of the rest of the site ) as it deals mainly with explaining how these light bulbs work and the benefits and disadvantages associated with them.

Nearly all the UK sites are biased in as much as that they are trying to sell you a product...and you know what that usually means.

If you have any information of an unbiased UK site ( preferably one with some credibility ) please post a link to it.

Best Regards
