Sadly, I have had to bite the bullet.

I really wanted to keep my Galaxy until at least Spring of next year, but had to make a rational ? decision on the overheating problem.

Having replaced almost every component in the cooling system - apart from cylinder head / gasket, came to the conclusion that probably not very sensible to attempt Winter as needing to check and top up coolant every couple of days i.e. little or no anti-freeze and therefore liable to result in damage rendering vehicle non driveable and therefore de-valuing even further.

However, this is not a sorry tale as I am now the pleased owner of a fully functioning Ren***t Grand Scenic ( hence thank you to Arnold Clark who gave me a good price for a 136000 miler).

If I am being honest, I am sorry to see the Galaxy go, she was comfortable, large, reasonable economical, and bl**dy quick for a diesel.

I would like to thank all contributors to this site as the help has proved very worthwhile, and I hope I will still be welcome to visit 'cos I really like you guys - and gals (and Maz, hope you get well soon).

I couldn't agree more, I have just had exactly the same scenario as you, overheating Galaxy, tried everything other than the head gasket to overcome it, and ended up trading it in. I sadly miss the Gal, and the new Renault, although very quick and nice to drive (Laguna 2.2DCI) is proving to be a bit of a dog. So far in 3 weeks ownership I have had the Turbo replaced and both drive shafts and an oil leak on the gearbox, all under warranty of course, but all the same it is not a reliable car, and I wish I hadn't traded the Galaxy in now, and just got it properly fixed once and for all.

My wife has a Scenic and she loves it, and touch wood, there has been no issues with ownership of it (1.9DCI 04 plate). It also tows our caravan very well.

The Laguna may have to be traded though, as it is giving me some jip even now after all the money spent on it by the garage these last few weeks.

Good luck with the Renault Scenic, they are the best and only decent car Renault have ever manufactured.

Still looking for a Galaxy - Once driven forever smitten !
