stevic Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 I've just checked the oil level approx 1K miles after my local garage serviced the car. They have overfilled by about 5mm above the max level on the dipstick. I have read the necessary info on this link http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html and I'm a little worried about how much damage, if any, could have occurred. Should I drain it immediately or is that amount of overfill acceptable? Quote
adrianf. Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 My opinion is i wouldnt worry about 5mm Quote
Saif Rehman Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 It depends how you drive the car - in my experience when i overfilled my volkswagen jetta, it was fine pottering about town but when i was driving along the dual carriageway at the speed limit there was a sudden lack of power. Mechanic later confirmed it was due to overfill of engine oil. So IMHO, around town low revs should be fine but at speed i would have the excess removed. Quote
chazhead Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 I overfilled my 2.3 by a simular amount (never top up on a slope) and it would chuck out plumes of blue smoke, especially on starting and pulling away. Removed overfill and all was right with the world again. Lucky for me my CAT was fu'd anyway but I would remove it asap. Quote
neiluk Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 I asked a similar question a few months ago. My car was overfiled by about 1cm. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...;hl=oil+overfil From the answers I got, I left it as it was. Neil. Quote
stevic Posted October 1, 2007 Author Report Posted October 1, 2007 Thanks for the info all. I called in the local garage this morning and they told me to bring it back tomorrow to have the excess drained out. Quote
