Change the MAF sensor.

I HAVE A 1.9 TDI GALAXY MANUAL 2000. 65000 MILES. SUFFERING FROM INTERMITANT POWER LOSS FEELS LIKE THE TURBO IS'NT WORKING, I STOP TURN OFF THE ENGINE THEN RESTART AND IT WORKS FINE! IS THIS A MAF PROBLEM TO.

MY 1.9 TDI GALAXY WITH 65000 MILES,MAUAL,2000 X, IS ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS THEY ARE INTERMITTENT. IT STARTS FINE AND PULLS AWAY BUT THEN IT FEELS LIKE THERE IS A MASSIVE POWER LOSS , IT SOUNDS LIKE THE TURBO IS NOT WORKING BUT WHEN I STOP AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART IT WORKS FINE FOR A WHILE! IS THIS THE MAF SENSOR TOO! ITS DRIVING ME NUTS!!

Market, I had exactly the same problem. In my case it was the boost pressure control solenoid (sometimes called N75 valve) that had failed. You should locate this valve and check the vacuum hoses that are connected to it. They chaff and become punctured.

 

In order to diagnose your problem you really should get hold of a VAG-COM diagnostic lead to read the fault codes. This will tell you why the engine is going into limp mode. There are possible reasons other than the N75 valve, VAG-COM will be a great help. Don't panic it may be an inexpensive repair and quite likely not a new turbo that is required.
