Guest gemineye Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 Hi, today the 2 warning lights for the rear bulbs came on. Back lights are working ok with dual element bulbs, but all my brake lights are not working including the high one in the back window. Have checked the brake light (fuse 20) in the fuse box and it's ok. Think its something to do with a switch i believe is at the brake pedal which can be pressed in. Czn anyone tell me how to get the brake lights back on, thanks, Tom. Quote
Guest barney Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 Hi I had same problem with my high brake lights not working , i renewed the brake stop switch under the pedal , the black one i think . Its a quick job about half an hour and the part only cost about 8 pound.See references to same problem on this site for more details. best of luck barney Quote
Buncers Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 I just reset my brake switch this weekend. Followed instructions on this site and Haynes manual. Haynes manual is rubbish. I had the glow plug problem, which is also caused by the switch - still to see if it has worked. Anyway back to the procedure. You need to take the lower facia panel out (drivers side). 4 screws (not 6 contrary to Haynes manual), on my Deisel 1.9tdi glx, plus loads of push fit fixings (be careful). The screws are accessible when you remove the fuse box cover (drivers side lower facia). So found 2 switches (shock), Haynes didn't mention this either. Which one? Tried both. Blue on is the clutch switch (I think - don't know why a clutch need a switch). Discover the black one was for the brake, behind the blue. Need to twist them 1/4 turn anti-clockwise to remove. Good luck Quote
Guest Ross Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 I had the same problem, had a new brake switch fitted and the same again 2 weeks later. Luckily the switch can be dismantled, file the contacts flat and clean, re-assembly and hey presto worked perfectlt since. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 Clutch switch is for disengaging Cruise Control if you decide to try and change gear. Quote
holywell7 Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 My brake lights not working either. Bulbs are all ok. Switch on pedal checked with meter and is working ok. Anyone got any more ideas? Quote
holywell7 Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Please ignore my last message. It's not immediately obvious, but there are 2 switches activated by the brake pedal. Not sure what the purpose of the front switch is, but there is another switch immediately behind it. The switch has an activator, the height of which can be adjusted by simply pulling it up or pushing it down. Adjusting the height sorted my problem. The switch is easy to remove by rotating a quarter turn, refitting it is a bit trickier. I had to remove the front switch to improve access. Quote
