Hi all,

I have a Mk1 Galaxy 90 TDi with Climate Control and no rear Aux heater.

I don't have any control over the temperature of the cabin, the air is always mildly warm. I can divert the air wherever I want and this appears to work ok. On very rare occasions the heating bursts into life and I end up with lots of heat but am again unable to control this. I have changed the radiator thermostat and the Climate control panel to no avail.

I wonder if anyone has any suggestions of what to try next or to look out for on VAG (I've ordered a VAG Diagnostics Unit) and it would be very useful to know if I can get too the motor that controls temperature so that I can check operation. I have located 2 flap motors on the RH side of the centre console and these seem to be turning ok. I've taken the lower dash panels off but still can't locate the heating flap control so any help or pictures would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe bleed the heater matrix top hoses to make sure no air lock before stripping out the dash...

just take out both glove boxes, you can get to most of the heater unit controls through these holes

Theres only one glove box on my Mk1 and I dont think you can access the top of the heater unit through that........

Theres 2 glove boxes on models with no passenger airbag

Still think its a dash out job to get to top heater flap.

I would wait to see what vagcom says...should indicate flap fault...probably.

Still toying with the idea of retro fitting the second glove box in mine and getting rid of the airbag.

Hello All,

Thank you all for your replies.

The drawing big kev posted seems to tie up with what I can see, unfortunately even with the passenger side airbag out I can't see the heater flap motor. I can see the cable which heads that way so I'm sure it's there but there's absolutely no chance of getting to it without the dash out I suspect.

Thanks for the advise on the matrix Seatkid, does anyone know of a guide on bleeding the matrix ?

If the VAGCAM tool comes back with a flap fault how difficult is it to remove the upper dash to get at things ? If anyone knows of an idiots guide to this it would be a great help I'm sure.

Thanks again

Look at the FAQs for illustrated procedure.

I think its several hour job depending on experience to remove/replace dash.

To bleed the matrix, you need to remove the scuttle tray under the windscreen motor (3 bolts - pull LH side out first)

The pipes are just to the left of the windscreen motor. You need to unclip and open these pipes a touch while running the engine to release air.

"anymore"......wouldn't this indicate that a previous love existed.

Would still rather have the handy 2nd glove box.....she's got enough padding anyway. :o
