Just bought a MK2 Galaxy which comes with 2 keys. The 1 remote key unlocks doors etc but won't start the ignition. The other standard key will start the ignition. Is there a way to use the remote key to start the ignition, otherwise we will have to carry around 2 keys? Or is this a trip to Ford? Thanks in advance.

All the keys contain a little transponder chip.

It is quite common for the chip to fall out of the remote key when the battery has been changed.

Check ( carefully ) to see if you remote key has a transponder chip in it.

Thanks for the prompt response. We pick the car up this weekend so will check then. Assuming the chip is missing, can it be replaced with the one inside the standard key?

but it still leaves you only one key - lose it and ....... best get it sorted by buying a couple of standard keys (or at least one) then you can still move if you lose it !!!

In your situation I would get a couple because you are going to have to get ford to program them so you might as well get them to do 2 in the hours labour they will charge you (or do it yourself - with 2 you can program more). If you only have one key and you lose it even changing the locks wont work, if you have 2 and lose one then you are looking at a dealer programming - if you have 3 then losing one means a cheap key cut for another and a self programming.
