I hope someone can help wth this strange fault my V Reg Sharan (automatic) had devoloped.

It started when I broke down on Saturday (just after reversing and using the boot), the engine just would not turn at all, no power to starter motor, so came home on tow truck.

On Monday after reading in the forums here I thought the problem was the gearbox inhibitor switch so I took it all out and bypassed it but still nothing, got tester out and see that there was no power going to the inhibitor switch, went to fuse box and found fuse number 5 had blown, changed it and all is good, car started and went ok.

Then I went out and opened the boot a few times and just after using reverse gear it blew again.

My High Level brake light and reversing lights have not been working for a while could there be a short that is blowing fuse 5 and therefore causeing my Sharan not to start or even turn over??

I wonder if all faults are connected, as the only 2 times the car has not started it has been after reversing and opening the boot.

If there is a short where would it be?

Does anyone know colours of wires in tailgate for reversing lights and high level brake light.

Thanks

It could be a short in the wiring loom to the drivers door, I have just experienced a similar problem with mine, pull back the rubber gaitor and check that you dont have any bare/broken wires there.

It is also possible that there could be a similar problem with the tailgate wiring loom and as a matter of course I would check that out the same way.

Both these places are a good starting point before you look anywhere else.
