bretwalda007 Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 I have a '97 1.3 Ka2. Has recently developed a nasty rattling sound towards the front of the engine. Someone has said it's the timing chain. How serious is this job and is it likely to be expensive?
insider Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Could be - best to get some quotes from local garages but might not be economical compared to the value of the car. It depends on the mileage and general condition of the car and whether or not you want to keep it much longer. Alternatively you could just live with the noise until it fails completely then change the car!It could also be the valve clearances which are much easier to check and adjust.
bretwalda007 Posted September 17, 2007 Author Report Posted September 17, 2007 Thanks. I'm going to do the rounds tomorrow. Was just hoping to get a bit of advance warning for what sort of shock will be in store for me!

It could be the timing chain but more than likely the bearing on the water pump is about to fail ...quite a common fault on the Ka.
delboytrotter Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 the timing chain should last the life of the car so i doubt it's that tha's giving the noise.maybe the aux tensioner that's doing it or the pump on it's way out as already suggestedcan you give a more detaild description of the noise i.erattlingsqueeling etc
