Hello,

I took a photo of the instrument panel, I wanted to continue with my speedo thread but couldn't figure how to insert picture, kept asking for a URL.

I've still yet to resolve the engine check light, I'll do that to day if I can, meanwhile,----

in the RPM counter, ( left hand side ) there is a small little green light that comes on every so often, looks like a mini RPM counter, what is the purpose of this light and should it be showing?

Cruise Control ?

Definitely the cruise control indicator but should only be on when the cruise control is operational.

if it comes on doesnt that mean that there is a fault?

as mine doesnt show when the cruise control is on

If it comes on when the cruise control is not on then it could mean a fault.

However, it should be on continuously while the cruise control is on.

It comes on to warn you that your cruise control is turned on......not necessarily active.

If it doesn't come on it is most likely turned off in the ECU, you can turn it on again using vagcom or similar.

Obviously if you don't have cruise control then it won't light up.....

Also IIRC MK1's dont have this light on their tacho...it is a MK2 feature only.

in fact early mk2 didnt have this light active - there were several threads about this in the earlier days - 2002 ish, our 2001 model did not have it but after having the instrument pod changed we got it - cant really see its point as BK says it shows when the CC is turned on - not necessarily active - we always have ours on but obviously use it when needed so the light always shows.

If it is turning off/on without the cc switch being active there is a fault somewhere
