Guest SHELLMAST1 Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 hi please help car goes flat at 3000revs in 5 gear cannot get above this great acceleration up to the 3000rev 70mph then it makes no diffrance if throtle is half or fully down revs will not go up changed maff and boost pressure seloniod no diffrance been told it could be wastegate sticking is this a new turbo or what 80000miles 90tdi no code showing when ford check it thay say wait till it gets worse but it is terrfifing on the moterway when wagons pull out and you cannot accelerate away HELP ME PLEASE Quote
seatkid Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 Sounds like might be vacuum problem - check out the vacuum pipes before coming to any other (expensive) conclusion. see http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/Forum/index.php?showtopic=1314 to see what I mean... Quote
Guest SHELLMAST1 Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 ford changed all vac pipes Quote
Guest SHELLMAST1 Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 NO IT DID NOT ford say their is nothing wrong no fault codes showing wait till it gets worse then we may find it Quote
seatkid Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 Ford service should have the ability to attach a gauge to measure turbo boost pressure and take it for a test drive. If they drive it to the limit at which the problem occurs, a simple reading will confirm if it it turbo related. My dealer did this to confirm boost pressure on my Tdi was correct. As there is a boost pressure sensor, I would have thought a fault code would flag a turbo/boost fault. Did you change the MAF yourself or did the dealer? If you did it yourself, check the connections and did you disconnect battery? - This resets the ECU to recalibrate the new MAF. Easy enough to try. (don't forget radio code will be lost) Did this problem occur suddenly or was the deterioration gradual? Any other symptoms e.g. Did you notice if you had lots of black smoke once you hit the limit and floored the throttle? I assume you have had recent air (and fuel) filter changes (i.e. not blocked) You need to narrow it down to one of three areas:- 1. Insuffient air into the engine due to blocked air intake turbo problem air leaking from boost pipework/intercooler (or blocked) 2. Insufficient fuel delivery due to fuel system blockage fuel pump problem PCM/sensor problems injectors 3. Blocked exhaust system catalytic converter BTW what year is it? (its not a PD engine?) Quote
Guest SHELLMAST1 Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 yes did maf myself boost pressure ford checked 29pound he said was right all fillters changed by me it dose not smoke at any time started in sept 03 came straight on thats when i did maf no joy so into fords thay found boost pressure selinode and changed it great for 4 weeks then same again i can over ride it by when it happens switch off and restart while still rollin and take revs above 3000 then slip the clutch still in 5gear and stay above the 3000 revs and it will race up to 100mph and stay their no problem untill i let the revs down to below 3000 and then it will not go back through the 3000 unless i turn it off and back on it will go through 3000in all gears exept 5th ford say its going in to limp home mode and by turning off and back on im resetting it but it is not leaving any codes still scraching my head Quote
Guest Turbo Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 It does sound like something is sticking on the turbo side. When you slip the clutch, when the clutch comes back up you are "releasing" a sudden burst of exhaust gas to the turbo. It sounds as if this is enough to make it work, so it could well be the wastegate or actuator. I havn`t even seen the turbo, wastegate or actuator on mine but there will be a rod coming off the turbo to the actuator, that you should be able move in or out a little if you can get at it. It won`t move a lot but if it`s stuck you maybe able to work it a little. I lost all power on mine but it was the Maf sensor and as you`ve replaced that and it now doesn`t show up as a code fault then you have to look at something else. I don`t suppose an exhaust silencer has collapsed which would stop the exhaust gas from escaping when using the boost . I had a Saab Turbo that did that once, until it blew a hole in the back of the silencer, then performance returned, but the car was a bit noisier ! Quote
seatkid Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 (If it was fine for 4 weeks with a new boost pressure solenoid, why don't Ford think its that again?) I disagree that its a sticking wastegate look at the symptoms - its fine to 3000 rpm and then trails off dramatically. If WG was stuck closed you'd have terrific performance followed by a blown turbo/engine, if it stuck open youll have no performance at all (esp. 1700-2400rpm), if it stuck part way you'd have poor performance at low revs and improving performance up the rev band. i.e. WG problems would affect bottom end before top end. The big clue is that it can be fooled into working OK above 3000 rpm by restarting the engine (i.e. rebooting the PCM) and going above 3000 rpm on no load, and by not letting it drop below the 3000 rpm threshold when load is applied. As soon as the speed drops below 3000 rpm the PCM is flagging an error and switching to limp home mode. The error is being cleared when the engine is restarted. If Ford can connect diagnostics after you have induced the limp home mode but not turning off the engine then maybe error codes will turn up (after all - limp home mode is an error). I think the fault must be one of the sensors or the PCM itself, I'm inclined to think its the PCM (because its not storing an error code). Could you persuade Ford to swap out the PCM for a trial period to eliminate it? Quote
Guest SHELLMAST1 Posted January 24, 2004 Report Posted January 24, 2004 IM GOING TO TRY DIFFRENT FORD DEALERS MINE TAKE A LEAST ONE WEEK BEFOR THAY EVEN BOOK IT IN THANKS FOR REPLYS KEEP YOU NOTIFIED THANKS SHELLMAST P CEAY Quote
nelly2604 Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Hi Did you ever fix your fault on your Galaxy as I have one that is having exactly the same problem. Regards Quote
