marinabrid Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 well after all tghe faffing and no aircon, im puzzled. ive no gas in the system after the dryer seals blew. the man came and recovered what bit of gas was left. the compressor failed a while ago but was still clicking in but producing nothing.so how come the thing still clicks in when i push the switch, the revs drop a bit just as though it was working. the aircon man now sacked didnt have a clue.i thought when no gas in system the compressor was disabled. no. i kid you not, there be no gas in system cos i aint got a dryer on at moment yet the compressor still clicks in and out on the switch. manual control type. odd . seatkid Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 It should be prevented from operating by the three way pressure switch which IIRC is mounted on the dryer ;) . Either it is damaged or someone has spragged it out. :D (Electrician's talk for bypassing electrically ) Quote
sparky Paul Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 (edited) If you stick your hand up the side of the dryer, the pressure switch is attached to the top of the dryer, and the connector is on the very top of that. As SK says, it should stop the compressor clutch operating if there's no gas. If the dryer has been removed, has the p/s been removed with it? I would have thought that the system should fail safe with the switch removed. Edited September 6, 2007 by sparky Paul Quote
marinabrid Posted September 7, 2007 Author Report Posted September 7, 2007 would the vag com show the pressure switch fault ? its a manual control ac system, have checked but no fault codes found on car Quote
seatkid Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Vagcom shows if the pressure switch is indicating under or over pressure but it cannot detect a faulty or tampered switch. Quote
marinabrid Posted September 7, 2007 Author Report Posted September 7, 2007 odd, ive replaced dryer , and put the old switch back on, its not been bodged up at all, so, no gas in there, and yes, when i press the on switch, the comp clicks in , the revs drop for a moment but no cold air. if the switch was faulty why is it letting the comp click in with no gas.
