Bayleaf Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Morning all, Just joined up to find out how to take my door apart really. The window's become detached from the up/down mechanism. Still more of that later ... I (or rather my wife) have a 2001 Mk 2 Ghia. (Gosh it's getting on a bit now). Good car with not too many problems and only one breakdown (splines on the drive to the whell sheered off!). Pet hate - placing bottles of iced water in the cup holders led to dripping condensation on the Climate Control module so now only half of the digital display bits actually work. Oddly enough this happened about a couple of weeks after reading an article about it in the paper. Been doing for years, so I thought 'It won't happen to me!'. Damn. Back to work now. Cheers Bayleaf. mumof4 Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 welcome bayleaf...taking the door apart is simple and sorting the window out is aswell...ive done it as have others. You wont be able to view pics till you have made a couple more posts...trainee guidelines im afraid... Not sure how your window has come adrift as it is held on to the runners by clamps at the bottom of the window..unless its the clamps themselves that have come off the runners..or the cable has snapped or unwound for some reason! Smilge Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Morning Bayleaf and welcome from me. Look forward to your posts ...sorry can't help you with your problems as I haven't had the pleasure of the faults you describe ....I know Mum has recently done a window regulator on hers. Quote
Bayleaf Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 Thanks Mumof4. From the graunchy sounds it makes, I think the window has come out of the clamps. A colleague at work has now provided the tool to prise the plastic catches off (like a screwdriver with a big V in the end). I wanted to know where they were located. I guess I'll have to post a bit more then. Be seing you. Bayleaf. Quote
mumof4 Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 considering the size and weight of the window and where the clamps are located....i cant understand how the window has come out of the two clamps..unless the screws on the clamps tightening them against the window have come loose..even then the window cant fall out of the clamps..there is no room for them to......which window is it?..it may be the clamps have come off the runners or a cable problem. Neils TDi again Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 (edited) The graunchy sound you describe is probably the cable jamming in themotor/gearbox and not just the window out of the clamps, its very unlikely that it is just the clamps.Common fault I am afraid as for the location of the clips trial and error but when I get home i can copy and paste the relevant page from the manual but sure someone will be able to see them as you prise the panel off. BTY the cables on mine got replaced with bicycle cables and screwed terminals and worked for about a year then packed up again. Best of luck and watch out for the errant females they really do bite.... :16: :16: Edited August 30, 2007 by neil_wiles Quote
