peasey Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Hi all im thinking of buying a v6 galaxy what sort of mpg are we looking at as i cant decided between that and the 2.3 Quote
cal86 Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Hi, I just bought a mk1 v6 auto galaxy. When I first got it the mpg was really bad, but found the air filter was clogged up pretty bad, once changed I now get around 18mpg in stop / start driving around towns / cities and have been getting 23-25 on average doing casual driving on A roads and dual carriage ways but should get more as this was a short run. Put your foot down though and you will see the petrol gauge start moving down, but the sound is nice  Quote
adrianf. Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 I used to have a MK1 v6 a while ago and to be honest i never saw much above 20mpg. Quote
Andrew T Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Official combined consumption is 26 for a V6 against 28 for a 2.3. The Auto version does 2 MPG less in each case. Quote
28vr6 Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 Average solo driving = 26-28mpg, 2 x adults + 2 kids = 25 ish mpg, attach anything to the towbar always 18 mpg no matter what speed I do  I've got the manual version and it's great for hacking off the youffs at the lights  Quote
Paul B Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 I have ran a v6 Galaxy for the last 6 years. One piece of free advice for you is, try and get one with LPG if you can, or have it converted to LPG. I had my current one done earlier this year, and it's great! The conversion cost Quote
gregers Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 just buy a tdi     Quote
mumble_bee Posted August 29, 2007 Report Posted August 29, 2007 hiya, I've had both the v6 and 2.3, 1 preceding the other, and I can honestly say the 2.3 is the far superior engine in town. yes the v6 is great on the motorway where in my experience the 2.3 is pants. however given the choice again I would take the 2.3 any day. the v6 always felt heavy around town. and yes you will struggle to get much over 20mpg with the v6. in summary: the 2.3 is pokeythe 2.8 v6 is a lumbering oaf. peasey Posted September 5, 2007 Author Report Posted September 5, 2007 right then i have decided to go for the 2.3 auto as this helps me out in my current state (shattered right leg due to bike crash !!and yes i should have listened to you darling XX)thanks for all your help in making my mind up you really are a helpfull bunch Quote
mumof4 Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 Heck hun....hope you get better soon and mend well.Always listen to wifey...she knows best  Quote
MrT Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 If you are looking at the V6 auto and have sufficient funds, I would recommend considering the Mk2 over the Mk1. There was a substantial engine change going from a 12V 178bhp engine to a 24V 204bhp. The later engine is also more economical. The gearbox also improved from a four speed to a five speed with a tiptronic style change. I have had both and certainly noticed the difference when I upgraded. Quote
El Dingo Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 I have a Mk2 2.3 Auto and it's fine - we get around 30mpg average. Nice to drive, as Mumble Bee says, around town especially. If I could have found one at the time (in the right spec.), I would have gone for a V6 - nice burble and all that.Don't worry too much about mpg - depreciation will make a bigger dent in your wallet, unless you're buying at the 'bargain' end of the market.
