Hi,

I am thinking about putting a single slot cd in my car, however the powered aerial thing keeps raising it's head on the forum.

What are the problems associated with this??

I don't want to buy a new head unit and then spend a fortune on a new wiring harness etc.

I currently have a 2006R radio cassette and am aware that I may need an ISO adaptor, however will I need to do more to sort the aerial.

Thanks for any info!!

I've just had a Kenwood single CD/MP3 unit fitted, I had a local Car Audio specialist fit the unit as I didn't have the keys to remove the FF Scala Unit. He fitted an in-line aerial booster for no extra charge as he said that it is something he does for all VAG vehicles as it improves the AM performance. I have to admit that I didn't previously have a reception problem but the Scala Unit may have had some kind of amplifier built in. On the other hand Sportq did the same installation but did it himself and didn't fit a booster and his Kenwwod is fine, so he thinks that if there is a booster it may be elsewhere.

Hi Mussey

I had a SONY MP3 unit put in and the radio reception is not 100%, that is true. It is more like 80%. To tell the truth, I hadly ever notice as I tend to drive in urban areas and radio transmission signals are quite strong. You will have noticed that the aerial is a strip on a rear passenger window and it needs amplication. This power is probably from the head unit since my Sony unit sometimes loses the RDS ID in rural areas. Having said that, the quality sound of this unit more than makes up for it.

Since I was not present at the fitting I cannot confirm it has the standard aerial socket, but I presume it does.

To sum up; try another unit and see how you get on. If you live in a rural area, seek advice from a good local dealer. Hope this helps.

the 2007 on my 99 Galaxy had zero AM reception, but was fine with FM. I replaced it with my old JVC unit with the same AM problems - FM was perfect. Added a DAB box to the tuner and can now get 5Live in all its glory!

Snip, swap and join which two wires?

The most annoying bit about geting into my car is the radio retuning every morning. I just thought it was my radio

Not sure this applies to Ford but on SEAT & VW but Battery wire A4 pin yellow from ISO connects to red ignition cable on Head unit & A7 red from ISO connects to Head unit battery cable yellow.

If not the same as VW red to red & yellow to yellow.

These configurations should enable ignition control with battery feed to retain memory etc.

hope this helps

Thanks for the help!!

Everything is now working, swapping the wires worked for the ignition---next time I'll not work in the dark, might make it easier.

Even the aerial amplifier was not too much of a problem, although I had to use two adaptors to fit it .... one onto the end of the existing aerial lead to fit onto the body of the amplifier and one onto the other end on the amplifier to allow it to fit into the head unit. Had to put plenty of insulatin tape on all the joins as I found that they came apart when trying to push all the wires back into the dash.
