seatkid Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Looks like Hurrican Dean is intensifying rapidly into a major hurricane and could head into the Gulf of Mexico. IIRC Last time that happened (Katrina) it knocked out 1/3 of the U.S. Petrol production. We know what happened to petrol prices over here.... Quote
tim-spam Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) Well I for one will definitely not be 'brimming' my petrol tank. Edited August 17, 2007 by tim-spam Quote
katman Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 When I fill up I always get a full tank so that I can check my MPG. I tend to fill up about 3 times per month unlike when I used to travel to Ipswich everyday and used to fill up every 3 or 4 days!!! I people change their "normal" fuel buying patterns by brimming the tank when they normally only put 10 or 20 quids worth in then filling stations will rapidly run out and there will be large queues leading to even more panic buying. When the fuel strikes were on a few years ago I was forced to change my buying habits and get Quote
chazhead Posted August 19, 2007 Report Posted August 19, 2007 If a similar situation occured now I suspect the problems would be more acute as the supermarkets have caused many of our local filling stations out of business and less filling stations means less fuel reserves in the ground  Not wrong there, we have lost 4 garages round here over the past year or so, the queue's at the remaining stations now are a real problem, it can take anything up to half an hour to to fill & pay for your fuel. I try to fill up whenever I'm away from the area now, but obviously that is not always possible. <shakes fist at supermarkets> Quote
mumof4 Posted August 19, 2007 Report Posted August 19, 2007 What id like to know..is how the local petrol station to me (Total) can whack up its prices whenever it wants to.....on Thursday, unleaded was 93.9 a litre.. on Friday it was 95.9 a litre..Yesterday it was 96.9 a litre...Yet the nearest Shell has stayed at 92.9 a litre . Asda is card only so i no longer fill up there...Tesco the queues are so long i dont even bother trying anymore..So generally i nip into town and visit the Shell forecourt. Quote
