Bigjeeze Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Can somebody advise me please. I have a squealing from my brakes that is virtually constant. I have before now removed the pads and calipersand copper slipped them etc which stops it for a short while but the noise returns. However, listening more carefully I notice that the squealing stops when I am on a right hand bend but gets worse on a left hand bend. A dab on the brakes stops its for a while but it comes back. Is this the calipers sticking -or is this something else. Could it be wheel bearings? The car has done 120K miles and in all other respects is fine - The brakes work perfectly - pull up in a straight lines etc. I will remove the calipers etc and re grease but I feel there is something else that could be wrong. Suggestions please (Keep em clean!!) BJ Quote
insider Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 Could it be wheel bearings? Jack up the front, hold the front wheel top and bottom and try to rock it back and fore. If there's any play then it could be the wheel bearing. Also, failing wheel bearings normally generate a rumbling sound while driving. Quote
johnswlondon Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 when you press the brake pedal it puts pressure on the caliper piston to press th pads against the disk, think of it as an on /off switch.if the brake fluid is contaminated it may interfere with the correct operation of the pads,so bleeding the front of the car s brakes may help. also,it could be that the caliper pin(within the rubber bellows)is partially seized and needs greasing meaning the pads are not fully disengaging when the pedal is released.the bleeding and greasing should take about 2 hours or less Quote
Bigjeeze Posted August 17, 2007 Author Report Posted August 17, 2007 (edited) Thanks Chaps - It doesn't answer the question as to why it changes as I turn the wheel slightly but at least I can check the bearings etc. There is no rumbling or feeeling of a bearing going. It's down to the coppa slip then I guess!! Edited August 17, 2007 by Bigjeeze Quote
