wizzy Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Hi I have reposted this question and tried to explain my question a bit more I will be fitting an Alpine touch screen monitor into the central glove box on my GalaxyBefore final fitting into the car I decided to try it out I have a motor cycle battery which I used for the 12V supplyThe unit switches on and works great the problem happens when I try to use the set-up screenIt has a message stating this feature cannot be used whilst the car is in motionThere are two cables that normally would connect to the hand and foot brakeThe instructions state connect this lead to the power supply side of the switch but the is the same as putting a 12V supply onto the connectionDoes anybody know if this is correct? insider Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 You need to find out what function these cables perform - doesn't it explain this in the instructions?I can sort of understand the handbrake switch, i.e. the screen would only work when the car is stationary with the handbrake applied.I can't understand the reason for the footbrake switch because this would provide an intermittent signal, i.e. only when the brake pedal is pressed. Anyway, connecting to the power supply side would mean that the screen is looking for a path to ground when the switch is activated. Therefore, you should be able to test this by connecting the cables to directly to ground. The screen would then "see" both switches activated. But, not knowing the function of these cables and what signals the screen is looking for means it's pure guesswork at the moment. Could you post more information from the instructions? Quote
wizzy Posted August 14, 2007 Author Report Posted August 14, 2007 Hi thanks for the reply. The exact wording is Hand Brake LeadConnect this to the power side of the parking brake switch to transmit the parking brake status signals to the TME-M740BTFoot Brake LeadConnect to the vehicles foot brake lead or brake lamp lead Quote
insider Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 Hand Brake LeadConnect this to the power side of the parking brake switch to transmit the parking brake status signals to the TME-M740BTConnecting to the power side of the Galaxy parking brake switch will provide 12v when the handbrake is off and 0v when the handbrake is on. Foot Brake LeadConnect to the vehicles foot brake lead or brake lamp leadThis works in the opposite way. Connecting to the black/red side of the switch (red/yellow is the 12v supply) will provide 12v when the brake pedal is pressed or 0v otherwise. So, I would suggest you put both leads onto the negative terminal of your motorcycle battery to test. I assume from what you said that it didn't work with these leads left unconnected? Quote
insider Posted August 15, 2007 Report Posted August 15, 2007 It's also possible that a sequence of signals is necessary to unlock the safety feature. Does it say anywhere in the user (not installation) instructions about this, e.g. press the brake pedal and engage/release the handbrake twice? Quote
wizzy Posted August 18, 2007 Author Report Posted August 18, 2007 Hi thank you for responding to my question. I have tried the connections suggested but it still will not operate. The only thing I can find in the instructions is a statement Operation of some of the functions of this unit are very complex.Because of this, it was deemed necessary to place these functions into a special screen. This will restrict operation of these functions to times when the vehicle is parked. This ensures the focus of the drivers attention will be on the road and not on the screen. This has been done for the safety of the driver and passengers. The set-up operation cannot be made if the vehicle is moving. The car must be parked and the handbrake engaged for theprocedure described in the owners manual to be valid. The warning "Operation is not allowed while driving" will be displayed if any attempts are made to perform this operationwhile driving. I did try telephoning Alpine but never got through. The technical department was always busy. I therefore emailed Alpine for an answer as this unit is sold as a plug and play system. No response yet Quote
