tiny Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 3. They are silica based tyres This only applies to the tread though, there are still a significant amount of carbon rubbers in the sidewalls, bead coatings, plies etc to allow the dissipation of static. There is also a section of the silica based tread that contains a carbon based compund, typically referred to as the "earthing strip".
gio Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Somehow I know I'm going to regret this........... Today's speedo pic - Why the doubting tom "regret this" that my job, anyroad i saw you average speedcorrect me if i am wrong it showed 23 mph, which i would assume makes youa tootaller, in which case anything is possible even an average of 53 mpg.But certainly not the type of driving i would do, but each to there own.
seatkid Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 And what speed do you average around town? i.e. where the speed limit is mostly 30mph......
Bigjeeze Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 It is almost impossible nowadays to keep an average speed up to the speed limit. I did 230 miles today at an average speed of 46mph - even including around 200 miles of motorway - the simple fact is average speeds are significantly lower than you think and 23mph around town is probably quite fast - depending on the journey time of course! Send the man his Pizza!!
mumof4 Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 If its ham and pineapple can i have sum pleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaassssssseeeee?????? ;)
mumof4 Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 No fair!!!..i want some!!..I'll throw a tantrum and stamp my feet and scream till im blue in the face!
gio Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 And what speed do you average around town? i.e. where the speed limit is mostly 30mph...... to quote you " you do 60/40 rural /urban, so you do not just drive around town!which if you did yes even 20 mph average would be fine, but you do actually drivewhere the speed limit is greater.!
seatkid Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 (edited) to quote you " you do 60/40 rural /urban, so you do not just drive around town!which if you did yes even 20 mph average would be fine, but you do actually drivewhere the speed limit is greater.! There goes the selective memory switch! - tripped out again! If you're going to quote me, quote me correctly - 60% town and that was a "guess"Forget the pizza, there's a better place closer and they don't give even half the hassle......and don't expect a tip! :D Edited September 7, 2007 by seatkid

Send the man his Pizza!! I believe you said something about opinions, but this seems more like a statement than an opinion! The simple fact is i run a transport office. My drivers have limiters fitted to their hgvs,54/ 56 mph we have to estimate what they can and cannot do in a day. 9 hours max driving but extended to 10 hours twice a week if need be.your average speed which i believe is in a car is what they come close to doing day in andday out. no we do very few town centres but sooner or later we pass through towns and cities. The worse route for us is leicester to norwich or great yarmouth [excluding greater london] and given the time wasted on accelerating andbreaking norwich is still done in 3 hours and 20 minutes 140 miles at 42.42 mph. We are 115 miles from central london and excluding rush hour our 7.5 tonne limited to 65mph, but will be sold b4 the end ofthe year due to having to be limited to 56! will run the journey in 2 hours and 20 minutes. 50 mph including the roadworks from hamel to luton. So i can only assume your journey was on a not so average route or major delays occured, and they do occur but it woyuld be bad luck ifthis was always the case. Now i have until now let the pizza statements go, because i realised that SK did not realise his statements could be deemed biggotted and racist. But given the fact you assume me to be Italian, [pizza jibes] and now you find it ok too! i thought i would piont the fact out that you too arenow using the pizza jibe, and before you comeback with any jibe what so ever concerning my sensitivity or you give it but cannot take it rubbish, thefacts are whether you meant it or not, i have now pionted it out to you.and it is deemed so... thank you

But everybody knows you dont guess, you are always clear and factual! i take you at your word, which is what you wanted. make your mind up!And you best read my previous post boy.
seatkid Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 I'm sorry you find my remarks offensive, I'll drop the pizza remarks if you drop the slow old fart remarks. What speeding white van men have got to do with this thread (How To Double The Fuel Economy Of Your Galaxy) is beyond me.....
NikpV Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 all right folks this is getting somewhat off topic - I dont think either the 'slow old fart' or the pizza side of things needs any further airing - I am happy to close this thread unless it goes back to being technical - personally in this section its run its course and is not of a technical nature anymore Thanks in advance
big_kev Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 On the subject of the 2.0l and its economy.......... Does the 2.3l get better or worse mpg than the 2.0l ?
gio Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 (edited) I'm sorry you find my remarks offensive, I'll drop the pizza remarks if you drop the slow old fart remarks. What speeding white van men have got to do with this thread (How To Double The Fuel Economy Of Your Galaxy) is beyond me..... No they all have trackers, and whilst its not 100% accurate the are a good bunch of lads and in the 2 years i have run the office 1 red trafic lightviolation and one speeding, which is not bad when you have 15 lads working for you and even i get called out. Our vehicles are restricted mostly by law but even prior to that the older vehicles were restricted to perform better mpg than if not ristricted,But i was merely talking about averages, and obviously my perceptions are indeed different to others. My galaxy was bought with only one aim, to tow a caravan with a mpgw of 1500kg, It does not get used around town, nearly all of its mileage isout on the open road,so no journey is shorter than 15 or 20 miles and most a hell of alot longer.the galaxy to me is not a economical vehicle in diesel form it does well i average 46 mpg, to put this in perspective, my previous towcar vectra tdi averaged 49mpg. the cavalier 17td isuzu engine52mpg, even my old alfa 156 2.4 jtd was better on diesel and my replacement 156 2.4 mjet as good. But they ALL travelled at a great rate than i travel in the galaxy. so you get 53 mpg from your galaxy fine, but i would then expect you to getfar greater mpgs from the vehicles i listed above,so to put it into perspective the galaxy would still be low in the table of cars when it came to mpg/do you get the piont. SK, there is a world of difference in remarks that could be construthed racist and being called slow, but then likeyou i did not realise that saying slow could be taken to mean old fart, so piont taken. big_kev Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 so to put it into perspective the galaxy would still be low in the table of cars when it came to mpg Of course it would it weighs 1.7 tons Do your wagons get as good mpg as your cars ?

Funny i read somewhere on here how weight does not matter!!!!!!!!!!!!! but my lorries do have a frontal area 4 times greater if that answers your question! Edited September 7, 2007 by gio
big_kev Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 I know I've seen them 2ft from my backside on the A47 doing about 70mph
