Tigger Posted January 19, 2004 Report Posted January 19, 2004 Checking the oil, it comes to halfway up the hatched area on the stick. Over the weekend the oil warning simble came on. Is this right and how much oil should be in when this light is activated? Thanks Quote
wiggybn Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 I don't think it should come on at all with the oil anywhere between max and min on the dipstick. To avoid risk of engine damage I suggest you get advice from someone who knows. It might just be a sensor problem but it might be more dangerous. Good luck with it. Quote
Richmond Posted January 22, 2004 Report Posted January 22, 2004 It's probably a sensor problem but it's possible that the oil is so old and thick  that it's not generating enough pressure. Highly unlikely, though. Quote
grifjl Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 I had this problem when the car was cold. Perhaps the oil needs to warm up a little to lose viscosity and therefore pressure isn't as high as it should be for a short while? We solved the situation by topping up with 300ml of oil. Took it 3/4 way up dipstick, no more problems!!! Quote
