mickC Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 I took my Galaxy to Kwikfit today - re-gassed (0.36kg recovered, 0.7kg charged) no fee because no fix! No leaks and a suggestion that my issue may be the pollen filter. Having checked out your comprehensive coverage of this topic - the pollen filter does not appear on the suspect list. The compressor appears to spin with the aircon activated. Is the pollen filter worth a try - using your very detailed and helpful guidelines? Quote
seatkid Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 (edited) Not sure but Ithink it should have 0.95kg if its a standard system, or 1.35kg if its a dual system (with rear roof vents - pretty rare)- or at least thats the quantity on a Mk1. The quantities are printed on a big label next to the bonnet latch...... To eliminate pollen filter woes, switch to recirculate - the pollen filter is then not in the air path. First things first, thank you seatkid for your guidelines on the pollen filter. This made a complex task much easier, but, as I think you suspected, didn't fix the problem. Aircon blows cooler air - now that the ambient air temperature has fallen to reflect the loss of summer. The label on my 1.9 tdi ghia(no roof vents) shows 70 and 105 - is this for for one and two compressor systems? If so Kwikfit appear to have fitted the correct amount although my confidence is low! Thanks again Quote
Paul B Posted August 19, 2007 Report Posted August 19, 2007 Hi, measure the Centre Vent Temperature with the Air Con set to Low on Recirculate on the air to centre vent mode. Test these with the Air Con on and Off. You should notice a considerable difference in temperature. When mine went wrong, my Centre Ventre Temperature (Climate Control) was warmer with the Air Con on than with it off, and I had to replace the Compressor, which cured it straight away! The Vent temperature would rise once the Engine got hot, to about 28C! It's now at 5-6 C with the Air Con running at it's coolest. I tried everything, believing it was not the compressor, but it proved me wrong in the end. If your car doesn't not have Dual Air Con, then the amount your car will require will be the lowest value shown. I presume from the figures you show, it's a Mark 2? Thanks. Quote
