Amanda Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Our keyfob no longer blips the car (Can't afford a replacement either). We have to open the doors using the key. We know have a problem when sometimes we've opened the car got in and it won't start - the immobiliser is on. It will take a few minutes of locking/unlocking the car from inside, actually getting out and locking/unlocking the doors before the immobiliser will allow the car to start. any bright ideas whats wrong ? mumof4 Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 sounds like the key needs reprogramming..you will find how to do this either in your manual or in the FAQs section which is pinned in the technical section. Quote
suzuki91 Posted August 11, 2007 Report Posted August 11, 2007 have you changed the battery? if not then its a 2016 type from most car spares shops. remember though that you will have 20 seconds to change it. or it will be a recode key event. Quote
Amanda Posted August 13, 2007 Author Report Posted August 13, 2007 Changed the battery twice now - garage telling us the battery needs changing. Don't think its that - so why does the immobiliser occasionally kick in??? Quote
NikpV Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 looks like you have 2 separate problems here intermitent problems with the immobiliser should not affect the key openning ang closing the car. The battery in the fob has NO effect on the immobiliser problem. Have you tried reprogramming the key try this procedure Do you have a second key - if so try using the second key to start the car when the remote key wont. Quote
Neils TDi again Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 If you have a second key is it on the same key ring ? or do you have any other keys on the same key ring? If there is a second transponder in the same area as the key you may experience a malfunction of the code when trying to start the car, I have the same when I leave my BMW key on the same ring as it also has a transponder and is active when the immobiliser polls my Galaxy key. If this is not the case it may be that the "chip" is failing to respond to the immobilier ring and this will need a replacement key. Quote
gregers Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 do you have to press the buttons hard(when it does work)?sounds like it could be a dry solder somewhere in the fob. Quote
seatkid Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 (edited) Some keys have one battery, others have two batteries. Also the battery and button contacts in the key can get quite gunged up depending on how its been treated. I suggest you carefully strip down your key - make sure the immobiliser chip does not fall out - and clean it with pcb cleaner and a couple of qtips. Change batteries if necessary. As for immobiliser problem - maybe check the wiring in the rubber gaitor to the drivers door - could it be possible the immobiliser still thinks the car is locked until your opening/closing finally flexes a broken wire so its closed? johnswlondon Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 hello amanda, very interested to hear your problem, thought i would give you my 2 cents.i notice you have the ghia model,so it would have an alarm, immobiliser and remote central locking, yes? now,i suspect that when you have locked the car you have activated the alarm, and when you open it the alarm has not deactivated, and this has immobilised your car.so i am guessingthat it is not an immobiliser fault but an alarm fault.if you can deactivate the alarm temporarily you would be able to check if this is true, pull out the alarm fuse when the car is starting ok,then see if the immobiliser problem persists.
