grandslam Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 Hi all,I have a problem with my 97 mondeo overheating. General driving around is fine, but when I stop the temperature gauge goes up til it shows it is about to overheat. The fan doesnt kick in until it is nearly in the red. However if I turn the aircon on the guage sits nicely in the normal range and at a constant temperature. Is there a fault with the fan or any other ideas? thanks for reading Quote
insider Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 What you're describing doesn't sound unusual or abnormal. You say that it is "overheating" and that "The fan doesnt kick in until it is nearly in the red". I assume that when the fan does come on the temperature returns to normal? Overheating would be if the gauge actually went into the red and stayed there even with the fan staying on.The probable reason for the temperature not increasing with the aircon on is that there is normally a second fan for the aircon condenser. This fan is probably providing additional air flow to cool the engine. Quote
seatkid Posted August 10, 2007 Report Posted August 10, 2007 (edited) Faulty radiator fan thermo switch or wiring thereto, its probably a two stage device (slow/fast) and the slow contact is u/s. Slow speed comes on when you turn on a/c by default via a seperate circuit. Edited August 10, 2007 by seatkid Quote
