I have a 96 GLX with a door lock problem.

I happened this afternoon. I unlocked the doors, my son got in the passenger side, but then his door would not close.

The passenger door is now open, but the locking mechanism has stuck in the locked position, as such the door will not close. I have tried opening via the c/l and the passenger lock but it still won't budge.

Any ideas?

Is the catch on the lock released? Look at the catch & pull the outside or interior handle & gently use a screwdriver to move the latch.Let us know how you get on.

Normally its enough to just pull the outside or interior handle (as if you were opening a closed door) to reopen the latch (of course make sure the doors are "unlocked" first).

Yeah agree, but sounds like the latch is either stuck closed(or open?)& quite often i have found you have to 'manually' move the latch(on Fiestas mostly, dont know why?).Kids, cant trust them to open or close a door can you

Maybe the deadlocking has accidentally activated on that door, disconnecting the handles from the lock itself. Use a screwdriveror similar to operate the latch on the door edge, as has been suggested. Then see if it will close and re-open......

Thanks for the advice guys.

The car is in the garage at the moment, and I can't get to the door to try your suggestions out, as it is such a tight fit.

As soon as it stops raining I will get the old Gal out and give it a go.

Cheers.
