BadHair Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 The airbox of my mk 1 diesel Galaxy is apparently held together by little more than sellotape and good luck, and therefore needs replacing. As does the air intake pipe, which is largely made up of gaffer tape and holes. How easy would this be to do myself, using a Haynes manual (which I don't yet have so can't check) and bits from a scrapyard? Or would I be better off forking out for someone who knows what they're doing to do it for me? The last car I ever messed about with myself was my old mk1 Fiesta, which was easy to fix due to there being nothing on it that could go really wrong. Quote
seatkid Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 Disconnect the MAF (2 allen key bolts) Pull off the small hose at the back of the box Pull off the front airintake hose Unclip 3 cover clips and remove top half remove air filter Tug bottom half up and to the right - its only fitted into rumbber grommets. Should take 2 minutes..... Quote
BadHair Posted August 7, 2007 Author Report Posted August 7, 2007 Thanks for speedy reply Seatkid. Is that to replace the whole airbox or just the filter? Or is it all just one unit? Sorry to sound dim, have only had car a month and don't have any kind of manual, Haynes, owners or otherwise so can't check. And like I said, the last car I did anything to was an ancient Fiesta and I suspect that engines might have moved on a bit since then!Sounds tacklable so far though. Quote
seatkid Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 The whole lot. The airbox has 3 or 4 lugs which sit in grometted holes in the wing. 2 at LH side and 1 or 2 underneath. Push fit. Once you disconnect the MAF, small hose, and front intake (just tug) the whole lot comes out with a tug Quote
BadHair Posted August 7, 2007 Author Report Posted August 7, 2007 Fabulous - thank you VERY much. Quote
johnswlondon Posted August 8, 2007 Report Posted August 8, 2007 im assuming you mean the air filter case?yes?it may be alot easier and cheaper to substitute the original for a more free flow conical design,eg k and n used to do them....shows my age! Quote
