Hi people, help please !!!!!! last 2 days me old gal has been stalling when warm not all the time but now and again pretty much as soon as my foot goes on the clutch at a junction :( and today it did it and wouldn't start again for about 2 mins. Now the glowplug light starts to flash after the engine has been running for about 30 seconds, i'm lead to believe this means i need to get the ecu checked out ? can anyone please enlighten me anymore than this, and avoid having to pay fraud for a plug in ? many thanks in advance for any help offered ! by the way, its a 98 1.9 tdi Edited by muppetofdoom

intermittent problems with brake switch ?

Inclined to agree with Nikpv's comment regarding Mike48t's problem. Just recently replaced the foot brake switch after having problems selecting drive (auto). On two occasions the glow plug light flashed for several minutes whilst driving (ecu fault) and then went out; no apparent problems with the engine itself.

Since replacing the switch have had no re-occurrence.

As for muppetofdoom looks like it's a bona fide engine issue.

It is almost certainly not a fault with the ECU ( they are pretty much indestructible ).

It indicates that the ECU is basically unhappy, not necessarily faulty.

As Nik stated the usual culprit is the Brake Switch ( you will have 2 of these ) cant remember if its the Blue or Black one that causes the problem, easy enough to take them both out to check them.

Other likely cause is the ignition relay, plenty of posts on this.
