Philwalfc Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 The TIS says the diameter of the disc for a 1999 model is 288 mm. But it also says that the 1999 1.9 tdi is fitted with 15 wheels. Microcat list the disc as part no 95VWX 1125 B1D for my vehicle, but doesn't say what size they are. Quote
Philwalfc Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 Cheers familyman. Just a bit worried about size of wheels. I have been told by one supplier that there are 3 different size discs for my vehicle. Sounds strange. Quote
sparky Paul Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 If yours is a mark 1, it should have the standard 288mm discs fitted, even with 16" wheels. To make double sure, I would measure them... :) If it's like my 99 Zetec with 16" alloy wheels 215/55 tyres, the discs are the (cheaper) 288mm ones. Quote
Philwalfc Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 Nice one sparky. They are the 215/55 tyres on alloys. !999 Zetec also. Quote
Philwalfc Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 Cheers familyman. I read a thread earlier and I'm interested in the Mintex discs and pads off fleabay. A lot of people say they are good quality. Quote
sparky Paul Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Cheers familyman. I read a thread earlier and I'm interested in the Mintex discs and pads off fleabay. A lot of people say they are good quality. I can recommend both the Mintex discs and pads - I've had a set on for two years/25,000 miles and still looking good. :) Quote
Philwalfc Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 Cheers Sparky. I'll have to phone the trader because I can't see the box set that was described on his fleabay site at the moment. Quote
sparky Paul Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 (edited) Cheers Sparky. I'll have to phone the trader because I can't see the box set that was described on his fleabay site at the moment. This is who I bought mine off... http://stores.ebay.co.uk/MNC-AUTOMOTIVE-LTD Excellent service too. He has some listed in his shop at the moment, Mintex pads but the discs don't appear to be Mintex - I would avoid anything unbranded. You could try this seller... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-GALAXY-MINTEX-F...emZ260145342482 Edited August 2, 2007 by sparky Paul Quote
Philwalfc Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 Great help again Sparky. Cheers mate. Quote
Philwalfc Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 Oh by the way. just to confirm. The brake disc size for my 16" alloys with 215/55/16 tyres on is 288mm. Thanks everyone. Quote
tengo Posted September 11, 2007 Report Posted September 11, 2007 just for infro the 2.3 on a 52 plate has 16in brake discs, even at trade price,a little steep, always pays to shop around.Be warned the bolts on the brake caliper can be s.o.b to get off.As they are smeared with lock-tight,when screwed in.Had to use a large wrench and 24st behind it to crack the nuts. Also before you leave the garage makesure you can undo the wheel nuts,as they can be tighted up so much you will never undo them with a normal wheel brace. Quote
Deanoecosse Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 just for infro the 2.3 on a 52 plate has 16in brake discs, even at trade price,a little steep, always pays to shop around. I think your mistaken with that disc size tengo. The 2.3 has a 16" WHEEL, but the disc is obviously smaller, around 300 I believe Quote
snapper Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 I know i am adding to an already resurected thread from Aug 07 but if in any doubt take off a wheel and measure the disc, diameter and thickness should do it, then when the motorfactor says " theres 3 mate 300mm 288mm and 265mm" or " there all 288mm but 2 thickneses" you will know which one you want.
