Airrex7 Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 03 Galaxy Ghia 2.3 Petrol. I searched for this but could find nothing for the petrol version Galaxy. Two days ago put my car went in for a 35,000 mile service, ( it's actualy done 36,000 odd ), it was giving no trouble but the servive warning light kept nagging me.The oil, sump plug, oil/ pollen/air/fuel filter, front brake pads, spark plugs, antifreze, Screen wash and a breather gromet were changed/ replaced. When I got it back I noticed a slight smell of burning oil but put it down to a little spill on the engine the smell has gone away now. Yesterday, my digital speedo started to play up and then the engine warning light came on, the car however appears to run perfectly OK. I've spoken to the garage who seem to think it's a sensor. I find it odd a sensor would go just like this having had no problems before the service but stranger things happen. Could a lead have been left off or come loose? Any suggestions as to what sensor maybe faulty? They say they will plug the car in, could someone tell me what fault codes if any I should expect, if any? Quote
Andrew T Posted July 31, 2007 Report Posted July 31, 2007 There are dozens of things that could put the light on, but if the Airfilter was changed I'd put a small wager on the MAF or it's integral intake air temp' sensor. If the air filter's been changed then this wiring could have been disturbed and given the frangible nature of Galaxy wiring this could have resulted in a broken wire. When the same thing happened to me the dealer quoted around Quote

Airrex7 Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 Thought I would just update my thread. Took it to the garrage, they had it for a couple of hours, they plugged it in and it came up with an unspecifed fault code, something they didn't reconise. I took Andrew's advise and asked them to clear any codes, so far no engine light, although the digital speedo, I am sure is playing up, I still feel a little uneasy. They have told me if the engine check light comes on again, to ignore it. I need to know what the diffrent warning lights mean on an 03, 2.3 Galaxy, has this ever been covered on this forum? Quote
Airrex7 Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 Well I spoke to soon, engine light back on, could it be the MAF or the VSS sensor? any sugesstion anyone? Quote
Andrew T Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 (edited) I'm Guessing that it wasn't a Ford Dealer, it was a Garage using a Generic Engine Fault Tester ? I'm out of my depth offering you advice on this as I know very little about diagnostics.........but my feeling is that if it wasn't a Ford dealer it may be worth getting one to do a test and pinpoint the fault rather than start changing expensive components in the hope that is does the trick. You may find that changing the MAF sensor makes no difference if the fault is in the loom leading to it. I'm not sure what the VSS is - Vehicle Speed Sensor ?Maybe a good Auto Electrician would be more use than a Garage ? What do you mean by digital speedo' BTW ? have set the Climate Control panel to work as a speedo' ? It's also worth knowing that you can "re-boot" the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes or so, it may put the light out but will leave a fault code stored in the ECU. Make sure you have the Radio code before you try this though. Edited August 2, 2007 by Andrew T Quote
