RAL Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 (edited) Hello My remote key will open doors and start engine but will not lock/unlock doors remotely. The led on the remote flashes and I have tried to reprogram as described. I have a 2001(Y) Galaxy 2.3 ghia face lift Mk2. How many batteries are supposed to be in the remote? mine has only 1. I presume they should be CR2016. The handbook is not helpful. Edited July 30, 2007 by RAL Quote
insider Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Yes, just one CR2016 battery. If it's the first time you've had to change it since 2001 then I'd say it's lasted pretty well! Quote
RAL Posted July 30, 2007 Author Report Posted July 30, 2007 Hello, Cheers Insider Today I took the car to garage to sort out the remote key because all it did was open the car with the key. It would not start the engine or remotely operate the central locking. The guy at the garage reprogrammed the key and it now starts the engine but could not do anything with the remote locking. I have searched the forums and I have been using the key in the lock, unlock 3 times, 0.5 seconds each turn method. Do you have to start with the car locked or unlocked and I am trying to do it via the drivers door. Am I missing something? Could my remote be up the spout? Quote
insider Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Try this: 1. Close all the vehicle doors. 2. NOTE:Make sure the door lock cylinder is held in the unlock position for more than 0.5 seconds. Insert the key into the driver door lock cylinder and turn the key from the rest position to the unlock position three times within five seconds. 3. The door lock light emitting diodes (LED)s will illuminate for 15 seconds during the remote transmitter programming mode, allowing the remote transmitter to be programmed. 4. Remove the key from the driver door lock cylinder and aim the remote transmitter at the interior rear view mirror. 5. Press and hold the LOCK button on the remote transmitter. 6. While holding the LOCK button down, press the UNLOCK button three times on the remote transmitter. 7. Release both buttons simultaneously. 8. Make sure the door lock LEDs flash five times, confirming that the remote transmitter has been programmed. 9. After a remote transmitter has been successfully programmed, the GEM will reset the programming mode, allowing a further 15 seconds to program the next remote transmitter. 10. To program additional remote transmitters, repeat steps 4 to 8. 11. Make sure that all the doors lock and unlock, confirming that the GEM is no longer in programming mode. 12. Test all the programmed remote transmitters, by activating and deactivating the locking and unlocking functions. Quote
RAL Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 (edited) Everything works down to stage no.7. At no.8 my key fob LED fashes five times not the door lock light LED on the door. Stage no.9 does state that "after a remote transmitter has successfully programmed, the GEM will reset the programming mode allowing a further 15 seconds to program next transmitter" . The door LED does not come to allow this. I have measured the 2 batteries (I did think there was only one but there was 2)in the key fob which does have 2 batteries and 1 measures 2.9v and the other is 2.97v. Any ideas? big_kev Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 I had exactly the same problem.....your key is knackered. Get a replacement ( or use a known working one from a kind person with a similar Shalaxy ). Try the programming sequence agin and it will work. Quote
RAL Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 I presume the transponder in the key is not working correctly? Quote
RAL Posted August 1, 2007 Author Report Posted August 1, 2007 Can ford test transponder keys to see if they are transmitting? Will they charge for it? Quote
RAL Posted August 16, 2007 Author Report Posted August 16, 2007 Hello Tried a brand new key no joy. It looks like the car is at fault. Any ideas please? Where is the remote central locking sensor on a 2001 Galaxy? Many Thanks. Quote
johnswlondon Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 i have heard that going past high powered transmitters can wipe the memory from chips, such as mobile phone and police transmitting masts Quote

insider Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 The transponder chip is what makes it unique to your car, otherwise anyone with a key without a transponder chip could open it! Quote

NikpV Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 The transponder chip is what makes it unique to your car, otherwise anyone with a key without a transponder chip could open it! the PATS transponder and the circuitry to generate the RF are completely separate and do separate jobs - opening and starting the engine use different parts of the electrical system - PATS for starting/running - GEM for central locking so it should not matter - just popped the pats chip out of my remote and it still opens the doors but wont let the car run Quote
gregers Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 agree nik ive managed to program my new key to remotely unlock/lock the car but alas it looks like im going to have to bite the bullet and take it to fords to be programed to the pats, unless anyone out there knows if theres another way or whether vag com can do it? syedorf Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 hi ral here is how the remote cntral locking works on my mark 1 seat alham there are two recievers one near the rear view one abve the back seats they recieve the signal from the remote they send this to a control box that is under the passenger side stowaway [grey metal box] this accepts the code and then unlocks the doors have you tried reprogramming but aiming at the back reciever you have a mk 2 but i think they are pretty much the same most standard remote central locking systems work his way it must be ford cetral locking as vw use a vacuum system and the solenoids on this are electric [solenoids open the doors Quote
syedorf Posted September 5, 2007 Report Posted September 5, 2007 gregers have you took th small chip out from your oldkey and put it in your new one tis small chip is the transponder for the immobiliser it is tin i nearly lost mine in tescos looking what battery it takes Quote
