galax Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Hi folks, Been scouring this great little forum to find a similar problem towhat my '02 1.9 TDi LX has with no real luck so far... Problem======== After 10 minutes or so of driving from cold, intermittently starts torun with almost zero power - as if there's no fuel being burnt (orsimilar to how a poorly timed pertrol engine runs - 'bumble bee' typesound with no power on accelerating). Then it will usually end up completely losing power and cut out. After a bit of a 'rest' it then starts back up again to repeat thewhole annoying process. - There is no sign of any problem at idle - stays smoothly tickingover at about 850rpm. And until the problem begins, it runs perfectly. - Everything else is running fine, recently serviced fine etc. - I unplugged the MAF - no change. - The only thing that I thought *may* be related is that the FUELGUAGE started malfunctioning and constantly giving the 'Fuel Low'warning light - I've just had the fuel tank's sender unit changed, which fixed the guage. But the problem is still there. A VAG-COM cable's been ordered to check the fault codes, but justwondered in the meantime if there are any ideas on what might causethis type of problem? Limited hair growth as it is - hope you can help save the last fewclumps! Thanks,AJ Quote
seatkid Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Possibly crankshaft position sensor - VAGCOM will pick that up. Quote
cjb Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Could it be a case of you could have dragged somethign through from your fuel tank (have you run too low on fuel?). Another thing could be the turbo causing the loss of power - whats the milage like? does it need looking at to have a good clear out? Quote
Neils TDi again Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 It could be the accelrator position sensor losing its knowledge of the pedal position. When it happens stop switch off wait 30 secs and try again. Does the glow plug lamp flash when this happens.? Quote
cjb Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Just reread your post and realised you have had something done to the fuel gauge/tank. is it possible they have done something i.e got a bit of crap in the system when they had a look at it? I would be tempted to think it could be a fuel tank issue at this moment, but that is just my thoughts! Quote
insider Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 - The only thing that I thought *may* be related is that the FUELGUAGE started malfunctioning and constantly giving the 'Fuel Low'warning light - I've just had the fuel tank's sender unit changed, which fixed the guage. But the problem is still there. The original post seems to suggest that the problem was there before the sender unit was changed so it's unlikely this caused it. However, it doesn't rule out some form of contamination in the fuel system. Quote
cjb Posted July 30, 2007 Report Posted July 30, 2007 Sorry - at work so not reading things as thoroughly as i would if i was elsewhere! Fuel tank seems like a likely source (for me personally). I had somethign similar on my Audi A4 1.9 Tdi a few years ago and it was fuel tank comtamination related so that is the only reason i say that. Quote
galax Posted July 30, 2007 Author Report Posted July 30, 2007 Thanks for the replies on this so far folks, Appreciate it. Yes - the fuel guage/warning light problem happened before this. But as the hiccups occuredsoon after the fuel light warning kept coming on, i'm thinking it might be related in some way(although of course it could be pure coincidence). The fuel has not actually been that low - it just kept thinking it was due to the duff guage reading. But even with the sender unit changed, the intermittent juffering down to zero power problem isstill there. Guess I'll know more once the VAG-COM cable arrives. Quote
