hi all,

my 01 gal is playing up again.

i can start the car and it will tick over happily all day long, i can drive up the road crawling and all is fine (had to do this today leaving a friends house down a very very bumpy track). anyway when i start to wind it up a bit i get to about 30-40 mph and suddenly it flashes a message, 'STOP'.. followed by 'oil press' now obviously this is the ooil pressure but if i stop and pull over and turn of ignition restart the car it is fine and wont do it again.

this has become a regular thing nearly every time i start the car from cold, the first time i was really worried and stopped, checked oil and it was a little low, topped it up and it didnt do it again for a few weeks, next time i thought hey ho i didnt have much to top up last time so i will buy some more and top it up properly but on checking the oil level it is absolutely bang on.

anyway now i have got to the point where it does it every time i pull away so i just flick the ignition off and on again and all is fine until the next morning drive.

any advice would be really appreciated.

thanks

If there are no problems when the car is idling, my first port of call would be the oil pressure switch - check the wiring to it and/or replace the switch.

If that doesn't fix it, and assuming all servicing has been done (i.e. oil filter changed recently) and there are no obvious oil leaks anywhere, the oil pump could be failing, or you could be losing oil pressure somewhere internally. Turbo, possibly?

I'm sure someone will be around soon who knows more about the diesel engine... ;)

Oil pressure sender.....had mine changed... cost just under a tenner from frauds. As Sparky says, check the wiring. If all ok, its the cheapest option to try first.

The instrument cluster has a speed signal fed to it which also switches the oil warning on at a given speed, pin 9 (off the top of my head) on the red plug, check the state of the socket using a sewing pin as anything bigger will splay the connection. I had a bit of plastic swarf stuck in mine that needed a magnifying glass to see but caused very similar problems as you have
