DaveJH Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 While driving home this afternoon the DVD player was working fine showing a DVD film on both screens - when suddenly objections from rear seat passengers - the DVD player appeared to have stopped working, both screens blank, no response to controls or remote, and DVD disc stuck in the player. Fuse 10 OK, and The 12v aux socket adjacent to the dvd player is fine. Constructive ideas welcome. Regards DaveJH Quote
mumof4 Posted July 28, 2007 Report Posted July 28, 2007 Loose wireing??..Is the power actually getting to the DVD player itself?? Quote
DaveJH Posted July 28, 2007 Author Report Posted July 28, 2007 Mumof4 Thanks for the suggestion - presumably that means unscrewing the trash hopper in the top of the rear multimedia console and having a look below - or is there another connector elsewhere to seek out ? Regards DavdeJH Quote

DaveJH Posted July 29, 2007 Author Report Posted July 29, 2007 Charlie et al Connectors located (two on light grey leads, obne on a black lead). Careful inspection of the unit multimedia unit this morning shows: monitor screens off - no respone to remote or pushing the "screens " button on the unit. DVD still stuck in the unit. however pressing the "eject" button on the unit results is a very quite whirr sound, followed by a very quiet click-like noise like a disc head seek - but no ejection of the disc. Regards DaveJH Quote
steve67car Posted July 29, 2007 Report Posted July 29, 2007 no its cool to use this one as its always open the visteon system is a wierd one for starters it is not a factory fit one but a retro one a company called auto monitor fitted them for ford when a customer requested them and therefore is a plug in and play system and takes its power from the radio and is turned on by the remote trigger from the radio so take the radio out and check connections if not the control panels are reknown for shutting down and are not checkable only replaceablehope this helpsregard steve Quote
DaveJH Posted July 29, 2007 Author Report Posted July 29, 2007 Stev Thanks for your fast response. I am not sure if one of my typo's has mislead, my Galaxy is a MkII TDi Ghia with the multimedia option. The Ford mini users guide confirms that its a Visteon unit. I shall check the radio connections (continued discontent from the back seat crew) Since the ord Dealership is closed today - do you happen to know if the multimedia unit is covered by the Ford standard 3 year car warrantee. If not, and if the unit has to be replace, the thread infers that some recommend an alternative system at around the same cost. Please advise. Also does it muck up / increase significantly vehicle insurance. Regards DaveJH Quote

Sounds like there is still some power getting to it. It could be that the unit has crashed in some wierd fashion and is totally confused. Can you identify which fuse feeds the system and remove it for 30 seconds or so then replace it and see if it resets itself. My Car radio once crashed in this way ans would only reset after power was totally removed. Quote

BrianFX04 Posted August 1, 2007 Report Posted August 1, 2007 Hi i appear to have the same problem with my multi media system,i have a 2004 1.9tdi with leather trim but i have another problem the 12 volt adapter has also lost power have checked the fuse(no10 10amp) seems fine but still will not work both monitors will not work either, the multi media uses a sony remote control and came as part of an elegance pack.Any help would be appreciated Quote
DaveJH Posted August 2, 2007 Author Report Posted August 2, 2007 Steve67car, Bleeno Thanks for your replies, and apologies for the delay in replying - my PC has had problems, some of which are fixed. Steve - car is Silver metallic, with cloth intrior, basically Grey trim. Thanks for the .pdf. Good system diagrams, though more detail of rear console fitment would have been helpful - I still dont understand why the manufacturer filled asymetric tags to the upper rear unit (it only comes out by releasing the r.h.s. tag - the left tag s not designed to release etc. I have not been able to look at the multimedia problem recently as the Galaxy is currently being pressed into use as a "removals van" - try that with a MkIII !. BrianFX04 Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Hi Have just fixed my multi media problem,it was the 4amp fuse at the back of the dvd player plus faulty 10 amp fuse in fuse box,i strongly sugest you re-check both fuses,as i must admit i missed them first time round.hope this helps Quote
DaveJH Posted August 3, 2007 Author Report Posted August 3, 2007 Brian FX04 How did you get the DVD palyer out. I have wrestled access to the audio plug in unit above the DVD palyer, by have difficulty remiving the 12v and other connectors behind the audio unit, and can see a nuber of flanges and screws behind the Audio unit. Presumably you access and unscrew these to remove the DVD. DaveJH Quote
