Hey people just a quick question from a newbie

When starting and left to idle the temp gauge on the dash goes to normal and fan kicks in etc. etc. but when driving the temps drops right back to the white area as if the ram is bringing the temp down!!!!!!!!!!! Is this a normal Galaxy thing................

Oh yeah! 1997 2.0 petrol

Ok Turned the new thermo the other way round............But it is still happening??????????????????

Temp rises fine at idle but when drops goes right back down.Pin hole in the hoses.....maybe....?

hmmm.....strange.....are you sure you put the new one in?

And did you examine the old one - was it stuck open?

For defo put the new one in.Old one doesnt look suck open.Had a quick look see at the hoses to see if i could see any "spots" on the hoses and doesnt look like there is any.As a galaxy newbie is there a rad cap on the rad as I am starting to think there may be an airlock in there but dont wanna drain until I now how to fully refill.................

Have been informed that small brass temp sender maybe caput as it was/is a common thing to fail on Fords.Would this cuase above symptoms and does anyone have pic or diagram where this is located.

What is this TIS cd I have been reading about?

they often do this,it isnt a fault as long as the needle has actually moved to the very lowest part of `norm` band,in fact it shows your engine is running well.i am assuming your heater is working though, else its the thermostat

Have you checked that the old and/or new thermostat work ? stick them in a cold pan of water on the stove and then heat the water - when it starts to boil the thermostat should be visibly open.

(this bit below may or may not be relevant to Galaxy's)

Also you can get different rated thermostats on the same engine/car combination - they just open at a different temperature. It could be that you've been supplied the wrong one for the engine ?

I leave the engine idle for 15-20 mins the needle rises and the fan kicks in.Would this not be an indication that the thermo is working.Dont wanna put the thermo into a pot on the stove for my darling wife to come and say "My good pot what the f**k have you got in there". ^_^ Not worth the aggro.

(above)fear not,the sender which gives the negine temp readout to the dash is not the same sensor that supplies info to the ecu.if the ecu thinks the engine is running cold due to a faulty sensor it would indeed supply a richer air fuel ratio and reduce fuel consumption rather than supply what used to be called by ford`lean burn`technology
