7up Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 60000 service due,so have booked car in for monday. Cambelt to be changed as recommended by Fords. Quote
seatkid Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Make sure they also change the automatic tensioner!!! (see other threads re: cambelts) Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 For that price they should... The belt is Quote
seatkid Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 What happened SA? you given up servicing that little beetle and gone into show biz? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Anyone know how long (labour hours) the cambelt change should take on the PD 115 and 130 engines? Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Less than 2 hours - see above????? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Didn't know if 7Up had PD engine. So someone's told me a porky about PD engines needing to be supported and one engine mount removed to change the belt then....... Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Yes, but it is a straightforward job.... Apart from slightly limited access, the job is easy. You only have to lock the crank and cam, and with drill bits - there's no rocker cover to remove like on the Zetec engines.... And if you do this several times a month.... Quote
7up Posted January 28, 2004 Author Report Posted January 28, 2004 Had it done at local garage they charged Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 No, it's gone because they overtensioned the belt.... In other words, they are incompetent. The coincidence is unbelievable. make them pay, and put a new belt on AGAIN. Quote
7up Posted January 29, 2004 Author Report Posted January 29, 2004 was told that the pump is run from a differant belt that also runs the power steering but i thought they were connected so will have a look in the hanyes manual then have a word with them...thanks <_< Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 You have to agree that the coincidence is remarkable! The water pump is not a known weakpoint. Quote
seatkid Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 was told that the pump is run from a differant belt that also runs the power steering but i thought they were connected so will have a look in the hanyes manual then have a word with them...thanks <_< They remove the auxiliary belts when they change the cambelt and then refit them. Earlier Mk1 the auxiliary belts are manually tensioned. Obviously their fault.... Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 30, 2004 Report Posted January 30, 2004 The Aux belt should be changed at the same time. And none of the belts should be overtensioned. Wonkers Quote
