Hello,

I have just brought a 2.3 Y 2001 Ford Galaxy after my Kia Sedona blew its engine after water got into the engine. I was given two keys, one was a remote locking key and this is the one has the problem. It will open the doors (central locking) if you use the key but the remote will not open the doors (central locking). Also the remote locking key will not start the engine. The other key is just a an ordinary key that works perfect (doors and engine). Anybody got any advice, does ford need to reprogram the key?

if you look in the faq section in technical, there is a link in there that shows you how to program your key.May also be in the manual you may have for your car.

welcome to the forum.

Many thanks. The reason I ask is that I have been told by Ford that they have to use their machine to program and there is no other way to do it. I just don't want to be ripped off for no reason if there is a an alternative way to do it.

Regards

The link to the FAQ ( items 7 and 10 ) will show you how to.....

Program a remote key to operate the central locking remotely....easy peasy.

Allow you to program a key to work the ignition....you must already have 2 working keys to allow you to do this.

If you do not have 2 working keys then you will need either a dealer or similar to program an ignition key for you......alternatively it is possible to do this with a registered version of VagCom or similar.
