mk2sport Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Hi m8. Being a non Ford Technician, i would say youre right. I work as a breakdown mechanic, and by your description youre bang on. Thethermostat needs to open and close correctly, and does alter your fuelling to suit. Chances are when she got hot,it has either collapsed,or is jammed open. I would advise to replace it asap. you do run the risk of premature cat failure if youre running too rich, and also possible valve failure. Good luck, hope this helps ya. :o Quote
kirk Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 Thanks for the input - Will be checking the Thermostat ASAP As a Final check before I wade in. Is it true that if I start from cold the Radiator will warm quickly if the Thermostat is perm open. Sounds like a good theory - does it work in practice ? Any views Quote
seatkid Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Correct. If the thermostat is OK, the radiator will remain cold/cool until the temperature starts to reach Normal, then you should see top of radiator start to heat. Bottom usually remains cool unless running at full power. Faulty thermostat that is open, you will see whole radiator warm fairly quickly. Quote
