markne Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Daft question:: Should a mk2 zetec (1.9TDI) have a computer? I don't seem to have and just wanted to check if maybe the display is broken (while its still warrantied(ish)) - I just have the top half of the indicators i.e doors open, beam etc.. the bottom panel is always blank. ?? mumof4 Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 i thought all mkIIs had a trip computer? Quote
tim-spam Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 (edited) A Zetec will not have a trip computer. You can however enable it with VAGCOM, and you then get and instantaneous mpg readout - if you want the other functions, you will need to install and connect the appropriate switch. mumof4 Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 why wont a zetec have one??i assumed all mk2s had one?.was it just the Ghia that has one? Quote
Neils TDi again Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Its a top end option and the Zetec in its normal form is a mid range option pack. It can be specced up on original order but many were provide for the fleet market with very little or no optional extras fitted. Quote

Chris Young Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 There are three flavours of cluster the Base Line, the Mid Line and the High Level. The Base line cluster does not have a trip computer in the back. You can check your VIN number on Microcat to see which the car originally had Low, mid or High.i suppose if you pm me it i will have a look see. Mine had a base line and have just bought a new mid line off ebay, still waiting for my self to do something with it though.Does any one out there know the differnence between mid and high (is it the Sat nav option display>?) Busdriver Posted September 29, 2007 Report Posted September 29, 2007 Hi there , I have just bought the galaxy . ( Zetec 1.9 TDI ) 2001 . I have been reading thru the post and they are a great source of info , thanks. I too was interested in possibly enabling my trip computer. having spoken to the local Ford dealer who wasnt really interested , sent me to the nearest VW dealer. Again he claimed that he had never heard of enabling the trip , and that if i didnt have one , it couldnt be enabled.Although it was common to enable the cruise control. Seems like they are just fobbing me offf and not really bothered about such a paltry job where they might not earn much . I am fairly computer literate , would i be able to get the VAG COM software and lead from the many Ebay versions and do it myself , or is it not that simple .Im not really bothered about fitting the stalk to get all the functions but an mpg redout would be usefull. Any advice appreciated. Quote

Can this be done at a Ford dealership? Anyone had this done? Cost? Thanks. Quote
