pillboxhunter Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 Does anyone know if my recently purchased TDi GLX 90 should have ABS? It passed its' MOT when i bought it but there's no sign of an ABS light. Can't get my VAG-COM lead to work at all so I'm asking here.Cheers Quote
seatkid Posted July 15, 2007 Report Posted July 15, 2007 IIRC ABS was an optional extra on mid/low end models on the MK1 models Quote
pillboxhunter Posted July 16, 2007 Author Report Posted July 16, 2007 In that case I'll stop looking for it then.Cheers Quote
big_kev Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 ABS is only there as a sales gimmick, you won't miss it. Quote

Hi I have understood that ABS was standard on all models from when Galaxy was launched. What I am saying is it isnt very clear what is the actual fact. I purchased my Gal back in April, without the knowledge of whether it has or hasnt got ABS(much like Pillboxhunter). After purchase I have found out that it is standard fitment on all Galaxys...therefore if not operating this would render insurance null and void as it isnt working in the event of an insurance claim for RTA.My brakes work fine as standard brakes, but the fact that I have tested the ABS effect on a few occassions(on quiet roads/ empty carparks) only to find they dont work!!! My ABS light has possibly been disconnected...(possibly as cheap fix?!).These factors highlighted make me nervous as to what are the facts!!!Is ABS standard - as stated on reputable publication (Haynes Manual) If so - Faulty ABS should be rectified as this could cost you more in long run due to no payout for claim in event of RTA. seatkid Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 Hi I have understood that ABS was standard on all models from when Galaxy was launched. This in incorrect, ABS was optional on low end models on all Mk1's, I remember it well. My first Alhambra did not have ABS, most early Fords (inc Ghia IIRC) didn't either. Quote

Well I will have to accept that is the truth as I have had a quick info search, and found that info of standard equipment still is very difficult to source. thankyou for your prompt reply, I have since found that GLX models are suppossed to have electric heated wing mirrors... Is there anywhere I can get material about my Galaxy trim and Spec????I havent got owners handbook (comes with car from new) so feeling my way around car to get to know her... 1996 2.0i Galaxy GLX - 80k miles Edited August 27, 2007 by vickigalaxylover Quote
mumof4 Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 galaxys come with diff specs irregardless of trim as depends what the initial buyer wanted at time of purchase. There is the basic trim, which you can find out if you search the forum... Quote
big_kev Posted August 27, 2007 Report Posted August 27, 2007 When I have time I will get the MK1 owners handbook scanned and point a link to it. This will have to be an offsite link to avoid any trouble etc. I know its probably copyright, but I think its old enough for no one to be bothered. Quote
