mumof4 Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 I think i have a problem with the accelerator cable...well so ive been told its sticking...also a butterfly thingy to do with the carburettor??..revs take a while to climb down after accelerating . Can anyone help me please?? Quote
NikpV Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 butterfly valve ??? if you have a look which bit moves on the carburetter while someone presses the accelerator - try moving it with your fingers and letting go if the revs die quickly then its probably the cable not valve thats sticking (based on cars from 20 years ago - none of that drive by wire stuff) Quote
seatkid Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Sorry luv, but you should place your query in the "Vauxhall Vectra,Zafira and other old dustbins" section ;) p.s. I just ordered a new Corsa  Quote
mumof4 Posted July 11, 2007 Author Report Posted July 11, 2007 ok..sounding stoopid now...where the heck is the carb and what does it look like? and what is it supposed to look like if working normally?? If i rev it on the drive..the revs drop very slowly till it gets to 2k then it just drops.unless it decides to idle around 1.5k every now and then..also..if i rev it to say 3/4k..touching 5k.....then it sort off splutters a bit?? goes putt putt??..Hmm.. Sk...we dont have an old banger section  Quote
chromedome Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 The "thingy" is called the throttle assembly. I had a sticky one on a previous car. It is normally found on top of the inlet manifold. You can sometimes take them off and clean them, however, they normally wear and the "butterfly" assembly sticks. Like just mentioned, disconnect the throttle cable first and try it as it may be the cable dragging and holding it open. As for the coughing and spluttering at 5k, I would suggest getting the ignition timing checked. Hope this helps. Quote
mumof4 Posted July 11, 2007 Author Report Posted July 11, 2007 Um...guys.....just one thing..i have absolutely no idea what all these parts look like! Anyone got any pics?..am searching the net..but if anyone has a pic of the engine with the parts pointed out that would be great...its an ecotec engine if thats any good? Gawd...rather work on a gal engine..i knew vaguely what i was doing on that! Will try as suggested as soon as i know what it is im looking at. Quote
turk90210 Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 think you might find that the Vectra is a fuel injection system and doesnt have a carb, it will still have a throttle flap but dont bother , you will probably find that there is an idle speed control valve on the side of what people think is a carb which gets clogged up usually cleaning it out cures the problem or at worse a new valveIll have a look through some of my old stuff and see if there are any pictures for you to identify it with Quote
mumof4 Posted July 11, 2007 Author Report Posted July 11, 2007 thanks turk, shes an R reg,10 yr old. Quote
Guest wolfie Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 why are you asking here? doesnt anyone on the vectra forum have a clue? oh no thats right they cant have they drive vectra's  Quote
mumof4 Posted July 11, 2007 Author Report Posted July 11, 2007 im asking on here coz i know you lot know what you are talking about, Quote
turk90210 Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 well I didnt realise how difficult getting a picture would be but here is a link to a vx forum with some pictures for you and an idea of how to clean, if you still have problems follow the air trunking from the filter to the engine, remove the black trunking and take a picture of that area and post it then hopefully i can tell you better from thatyou should get a rough idea of the area Im talking about when you look at the vaux forum picture of the ecotec engine Quote

turk90210 Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 oops sorry forgot to add the link try this http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/sho...d.php?p=1558469 Quote
mumof4 Posted July 12, 2007 Author Report Posted July 12, 2007 Thanks for the link..couple o piccies of the engine.. Quote
Simply_Graham Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 I think from the picture that your engine is fitted with a single point injection system to meet emission regulations, not a carburettor. Vauxhall are 'great' (Ha Ha) for there fly by wire systems. What Quote
mumof4 Posted July 12, 2007 Author Report Posted July 12, 2007 shes a 1.6 LS....engine size is..well it says here 15980cc..that cant be right can it?? Quote

mumof4 Posted July 17, 2007 Author Report Posted July 17, 2007 Last night i was under the car watching my cat whilst i had my daughter useing the accelerator pedal..the noise is getting louder from that area..very metallic ..hard to describe it...like a vroom but with ball bearings??..its def coming from where the cat is....any ideas what it could be before i whip it down to the garage?..i couldnt get under far enough to see if maybe there was a hole in a pipe or something...... Quote
supersoda45 Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Hi,The noise you describe sounds like the cat might be 'dying', if it's still the original cat which makes it 10 years old the ceramic layers inside the cat start to break up and come loose resulting in the 'ball bearings in a can' noise if left to long like this it can result in a blocked cat causing poor running. My V6 Gal had the same problem and died on me on the A1 in Northhampton on the way home to Farnborough one evening she spent the next 3 hours on the back of an AA truck. supersoda45 Posted July 19, 2007 Report Posted July 19, 2007 Hi mumof4,I forgot to mention on my reply to your post you mentioned about finding a Halfords to get a Haynes manual for your Vectra, well if you haven't brought it yet and you still require one I have a copy you can have for free. I used to own a Vectra till she had an argument with a lorry and lost!!! (not my fault). :angry2: the manual is just sitting in my book case gavering dust so it might as well go to a new home were it will be of use, it covers you car and year 1995 N to 1999 S. If you do require it send me a message somehow and I'll post it to you. Quote
mumof4 Posted July 19, 2007 Author Report Posted July 19, 2007 The cat is brand new, it was put on it end of may to get it thru its mot. The noise does sound as if it is coming from that area, but i cant see it being the cat when it isnt even a couple of months old yet? Ive had the car since the beginning of june and i have covered nearly 2 thousand miles in her.she is just about to reach the 100k miles. I was under the car yesterday having a feel along the pipes from the cat all the way to the end of the exhaust and i could feel no holes at all.But that noise is def getting louder..though it is only when i put my foot down..if i accelerate very gently she is fine...but if i accelerate quickly..then its loud.Today shes been hopping a bit when i accelerate ..but im thinking thats me at the mo as im trying not to be heavy footed when i accelerate in 1st and second which is when it is loudest. as for the manual..yep..if you dinnae need it that would be great.
