johnandalina Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Hi Everyone Got an auto 2001 2.3 Ghia a couple of months ago. Suffered flat batteries and Fords Dagenham have fitted a new alternator. I have also had a problem with the airbag light constantly on. The diagnosis was a main drivers module fault which would cost Quote
mumof4 Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Id go for the cheaper option first! when you plug in vag-com, it will throw up any fault codes registered. If you do this, then i believe it is better to clear all faults, then try again after starting the car to see what fault codes are thrown up.Dont quote me on it though as i know very little about vag-com and someone more knowledgable than me will know better. welcome to our little corner of the internet. :16: unless you have a warrenty with them..id steer clear of Fords as sometimes they dont know their ass from their elbows and just do work willy nilly to see if sorts the problems out. seatkid Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 The airbag light could very well have been triggered by your battery/alternator problem. Once the airbag fault is triggered, it needs to be reset by a diagnostic machine such as the dealers computer or several diy kits such as vag-com. Its a 2 minute job. IMO its highly unlikely you have a faulty module. Clocksprings are sometimes a problem. Try a forum search and you should find quite a lot of information on airbag problems. Quote
johnandalina Posted July 11, 2007 Author Report Posted July 11, 2007 thanks for the superfast replies. To be honest I was less than impressed by Dagenham Motors ( Plaistow ). It is a big place with other units on the site. I booked the job with Ford to diagnose my battery problem and my airbag light. I was told it was two different diagnostic machines at Quote
mumof4 Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 2 diff diagnostic machines??!!...now ive never heard of that one before!!..usually Fords charge around 100 smackeroonies just for diagnostic.. Fords are well and truely pulling your leg over this one. SK..i think my point is well proven in regards to the MKIII and learning curves!! Quote
gregers Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 did you get any kind of warranty when you bought the car?and is it still running?if so take it back and complain to them,if not defo go for the cheapest option 1st as said b4 by others. Quote
johnandalina Posted July 12, 2007 Author Report Posted July 12, 2007 The car came with 3 months warranty. Suprise suprise it doesn't cover "electrical" or alarms, stereos etc but only major engine problems! Will get it hooked up to one of these VAG things locally and see what they say. Quote
