seatkid Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 From your lucid explanation I think you probably need a mechanic.... :16: Sounds like the steering wheel needs to come off.... Quote
mumof4 Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 WEll i understood it, probably because its the type of post i used to/still do :16: If steering is stiff, doesnt that mean the power steering isnt working? Quote
Dave-G Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 As seatkid says - your steering wheel needs to come off. The brass thingy is probably part of the ring contact for the horn switch, part of which sounds like has busted and is fouling something - It has to maintain electrical contact while steering. Get yourself parked up outside a scrapyard that has a Galaxy comparable to yours and remove the steering wheel - see whats what and get the replacements needed. Of course you'll need to take a few tools with you and ask the nice scrapmerchant if he's ok about only supplying the bits you need - within reason. This could be very complicated if you have an airbag in the steering wheel - of which I am not competent to discuss. Quote
vwsharan Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 Hi, Just thought I would add my penny's worth. 1. If it is a Forg Galaxy of any model of any year it WILL have an air bag.2. You must NOT attempt to disconnect the airbag unless to take certain precautions beforehand otherwise you or someone else is possibly going to get seriously hurt/killed.3. You obviously have no idea what you are doing and I would advise you to take it to a garage and NOT just nip to the local scrappy as you are likely to end up with a disabled vehicle and no way of re-assembling the steering wheel.4. I only advise this because you DO NOT KNOW what has given way and it could be more serious than you first think and on dismantling it you may find you cannot re-assemble it.5. If you do decide to have a go yourself good luck but please disconnect the battery and WAIT at least 20 minutes to allow the airbag system to discharge. I have carried out extensive work/repairs on cars now and in the past but whenever it comes to airbags I leave well alone and always return my car to the main agent/competent independent garage regardless of the cost.
