Guest T120 Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 Does any one know where to get hold of any form of diagnostic, software, hardware & cable links for these Galaxys. Quote
Guest DBAG Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 I have seen many on ebay, including one with cable, (odb2) laptop and software.I would be really careful with them, though- any engine properties are to be change with caution. Like a computer, "never change a running system" good luck, Adam Quote
Guest T120 Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 AdamThanks for the info, I am like yourself whilst its running don't fix it. :) But like most things there comes a time when one of these will be worth its weight in gold when checking for fault / faults, instead of going to your local dealer being ripped off for Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 14, 2004 Report Posted January 14, 2004 Plenty of info on VAGCOM around -I have used it to close EGR down and other things, as have a number of others. Quote
MrT Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Can the VAGCOM software read from the recent Galaxy? I see it supports the Alhambra and Sharon but no mention is made of the Galaxy. Quote
seatkid Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 Plenty of info on VAGCOM around -I have used it to close EGR down and other things, as have a number of others. SA , what are the benefits of closing down EGR? Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted February 1, 2004 Report Posted February 1, 2004 The EGR opens wide when idling or at steady throttle. This is solely to reduce the ignition temperature and reduce Nox emissions. The problem is the inlet manifold gets choked with burnt on oil deposits and gradually reduces the engine's ability to breath...you know what the result is. I think there are a few threads on this. It's an infamous VAG trait. By closing the EGR down (the idea is mooted on Fred's VAG pages) the inlet will only clog after starship mileages. The other benefits include slightly better engine response and a smoother power curve! Quote
_dg Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 I've read on another forum that VAG-COM will not read any engine detail from a Galaxy with a Ford engine but will just read from the other modules. It only reads the engine module if a VW engine If this is the case, is this a big limiting factor and is there a better program that will read all modules on a Galaxy? Is VAG-COM suitable for the pre-2000 model Galaxies. I'm dead keen to get some suitable diagnostic software, but am not clear what would be the most suitable for my car Quote
MrT Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 Why not try VAG-COM and see if it works? The limited shareware version is free and it works on my 2001 2.8 Galaxy. Quote
_dg Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 Yes, although the shareware version is free, I don't want to splash out Quote
