Just bought a 2003 Mk2 Galaxy 1.9 Zetec Diesel Automatic (115BHP) and found both footwells soaking wet with water--looked as if it had wet for some time. Have now removed the insulation mats and trying to resolve the leak.

Having been on this site, I have checked for the various areas that others have mentioned --1) the pollen fiilter -- I have sprayed water inside the engine compartment around the pollen filter housing --no leak observed inside -- 2) front door drain holes --all clear -- 3) checked rear wash pipe that runs through the car -- appears to be ok.

When it rained heavily last week I found water droplets coming down the front of the N/S bulkead in the vicinty of the wheelarch --looked up and thought it came from the washer pipe as it comes through the bulkhead -- on ispection i found the rubber grommit, that it goes through, dry.

This weekend, I have dismantled parts of the fascia and sprayed the outside of the car with a hose -- from all angles i may add -- and have found no leaks.

As a last resort, I am keen to find out if anyone has found another leak point that I may not have picked up on. This problem has stumped me.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Have you been using your air-con? If so use it again and look for tell drips of condensate from the evaporator behind the glove box.

If you have someone you want to pi55 off have them be a front seat passenger while you take them for a drive. The condesate will drip on their right foot if the drain pipe has come adrift. Alternatively place a newspaper there while you go for a drive, you'll see where the water drips onto it.

Don't forget to check the small trim panel round the wiper arms. They are held in by 3 clips, 2 of which fit into holes which go right through into the area above the footwells and can let in a surprisingly large amount of water due to the rubber gutter at the side of the windscreen directing all the runoff from the roof straight at them! . Remove the wiper arms, pull off the panel and clips, clean everything up and fill the two holes with as much mastic / silicone sealant as possible and refit the panels and wiper arms. Allow to dry / cure and test with hose - this cured mine. The panel on the passenger side was loose which was the giveaway. The drivers side wasn't but I took it off and sealed the holes anyway. The sound deadening / underfelt takes ages to dry - 24 hours in front of a Red Rad for mine!

Good Luck

we allways had water in the drivers footwell sogy carpet even splashing. Tried everything and looked every where, could not find the source of the leak ,everytime we bailed it and dryed it the next time it rained carpert soaked again then all of a sudden for what apeared to be no reason it stayed dry and has been dry ever since the only thing we have ever done is during a couple of days of dry weather decidedto straiten out crushed sills {yes we have them} with a pair of grips and filled a rough gap at the very bottom edge of the sill {is this between inner and outer sill?} and painted everything over with Hamerite smooth Silver Metalic paint exellent mathch far better than fords touch up I can only presume this has cured the wet foot well problem havent altered anything else and still bone dry.

I had a the same issue with my sharan and it turned out to be the front window. water was running off the roof down the sides of the windows - the adesive that is used to stick the window in had worn. The easiest way to check is to remove the carpets to expose internal bodywork. then use a garden hose to spray water on the screen (helps if you also run the wipers cos it pushes the water to the edge of the window. run the hose for a few minutes. then stop look in the footwells. if nothing is leaking wait 5 mins and check again.

if the water appears then you have found the problem.

You can fix the problem using external window sealant. Basically you need to remove the wipers and unclip the plastic trim that sits over the wiper motor, then lift the rubber seal the runs down from the roof at the edge of the screen, this exposes the very edge of the window and you should be able to see black sealant/adesive that is holding the window in. get some external window sealant from your local diy store and run it down the edge of the screen. wipe off the excess. wait for it to set and then replace trims etc.

I had the same problem with my mk1.

Try undoing the wheel arch liner from the rear of the front wheel arches. It doesn't need to come off completely just about the first 4-5 torx screws from the rear end.

Check between the liner and the wing and you will find a water outlet (from the windscreen bulkhead area i think) with like a 1 way valve thing on it.

This can be carefully prized off and I bet you'll find a load of muck behind it.

Both mine where clogged right up.

Since I cleared them I had no problems.

Hope this is useful
