post-4418-1182982087.jpgHi all just fitted a new pump today as old one full of water and seized although it did actually work for some months it eventually gave up .Anyway fitted new one in approx 10 mins but it don't work i noticed when comparing both that the new one had an aditional pipe fitted ie if you look at this picture you will see the white outlet has no pipe on it as per my old pump but the new one has and this basically runs to the same point as the pipe above it or it plugs in right next to it .Anyone any idea what it is should it be there or do i need it , could this be why it isn't working or could it be a blown fuse etc from running the old rusted pump , is there a fuse for the pump any suggestions welcome?

I am assuming yours is a petrol version - When in the drivers seat and you select CC On can you hear the relay click from behind the radio LH side if not then from my experience the best place to start if you have the Ford TIS electrical diagrams and a multimeter is to remove the radio ( check you've got the code!) insert right hand into hole reach to the left find the metal pillar and feel for an aluminium box ( 4x3x1" approx) this is the speed control module, on it will be a plug, release plug and ease towards you this will have all the inputs/outputs. check for continuity between the pins from the CC stalk On/Off set etc, check the power from the fuse 3 I think). Then check for a voltage on the purple pin which is the speed sender signal this also controls the radio GALA (makes the audio increase with increased speed) and feeds the engine management if no voltage present then it could be the instrument cluster not outputting the signal on pin 7 (purple) of the red plug the speed in signal is on pin 27 ( green/white). If this is the case then you'll need to remove pin 7 wire from the plug and splice onto pin 27 wire. refit everything and see if the relay now clicks, if so have a test drive good luck

Thanks for your reply , double checked the new pump today and its the same type and fitted correctly , fuse is also ok its bloody typical that it worked before , all i,ve done is replaced the u/s pump and now it don't .I don't have a ford TIS but am no stranger to a multimeter so will have to get some diagrams from somewhere cannot hear any relay switching behind radio but to be honest don't think i did before has to be something stupid or hope it is . Is there a way of checking voltage at the pump itself?

thanks

mike......

p.s sorry car is 2001 petrol and gas converted 2.3 twin cam

You could check at the pump but until you get the relay clicking over then there won't be any thing to measure at the pump that's why the speed control module is a good place to start as all the signals necessary are sent there. I'll dig out my diagrams tonight and post the pinouts, as I can't remember the exact pin allocations

The following are the SCM inputs & outputs:

pin1 blue/white to pump vacuum

pin2 brown/ red to pump+

pin3 white to ON switch

pin4 brown to earth

pin5 blue to switch

pin7 purple to speed signal

pin8 red to set switch

pin9 yellow to switch

pin11 black to pump motor earth

28VR6 , thanks for all the info ! Problem is after removing the stereo i cannot find any sign of a scm or box with lead behind it anywhere ? if i was to try for +V at the pump itself would the car not have to be travelling at 30mph or above for the cruise to work or would the switch on the stalk once activated be sufficent ? would the power wire be brown/red ?

thanks again for your help

Mikej,

the SCM is a well hidden beast but essentially it lies to the left of the radio behind one of the metal pillars facing the passengers side, behind the bank of switches (about the size of a fag packet). You could remove the instrument facia panel for a better look/access. Did the relay click when the CC switch is made, if not you could try for a GALA voltage approx 10V (actually a pulse signal) on the radio plug which should be on the purple pin or if you have the Ford 2007 radio Red wire to pin 5. If the GALA signal is not there then the SCM will not latch the relay to set the pump going.

Hi 28VR6 firstly my car is 2.3 ghia petrol july 2001 mk2 removed stereo again and all switches from left side of center switch panel cannot see any scm at all in fact all i can see is the side of the glove box and a big blank space but no module at all . Only purple wire i have going to the stereo is a single purple wire on a five pin yellow plug other 4 pins of plug have no wires and are blank , whilst this is clipped to the rear of the stereo it does not actually plug into it or anything else its just clipped to the back of the 2005 stereo , cannot hear any relay switching at all when i activate the stalk switch , its totally dead also checked every fuse in fuse box and all ok including fuse 3 (5A) is it possible that this scm is fitted elsewhere on this year/model i am totally stumped as where to start hence i mentioned the trying at the pump earlier .To be honest i am not even sure what i should check for there only a 12V supply maybe?. I had a gas conversion done in march and asked the guy if the cruise would still work after the conversion (before i bought a new pump) as i thought the cruise worked on a vacuum as does the gas system he assured me it would work as before as my car can run on either gas/petrol and it wouldn't affect the cruise. I know it worked before i changed the pump hence totaly confused as where to start.

Mikej,

I'd have to check my Ford TIS for your yr/model as it is quite likely the SCM has been stuffed elsewhere but the guidance given on location is always a bit vague and the diagrams are equally so, I'll try tonight

Mikej,

The ford TIS diagram says the module is under the dash, drivers side so it appears to have moved on the Mk2, hopefully the attachment should help with the pinouts when you find the SCM
