johnb80 Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 Hi Guys, Gals and mumof4,Long time since I've been on here, what cable and software works best for resetting the aux heater which isn't working on our Gal. If you could give me links to suppliers I'd appreciate it as well as any guidance, I'm assuming the glowplug etc may be oiled up so remove clean it all out and then start it up, can this be done via software or do I need to short out the temp sensor? Disco is still running well, as is the Gal for that matter. Regards - J Quote
tim-spam Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 VAGCOM from Ross-Tech - their website is www.ross-tech.com. Their lead and software is the real McCoy and works 'straight out of the box' with full functionality (if you have a TDI or VR6) - their back-up is really good too. I don't know how good it is with Ford engines though - I haven't tried it, although others may have done. There is a generic OBDII function within VAGCOM which I suppose may talk to a Ford engine. Chris Young Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 Pulling the fuse did the trick for me. Quote
johnb80 Posted June 27, 2007 Author Report Posted June 27, 2007 Which fuse ? sounds like a good plan. Regards - J Quote
Chris Young Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Pretty sure on my mk2 it was fuse 12.Mk 1 is also fuse 12 (25amp fuse) BUT i would advise getting it fixed before the winter. Quote
johnb80 Posted June 29, 2007 Author Report Posted June 29, 2007 Don't believe any reset is requiredIt did it's 5 attempts and then stopped trying, I asumed it would need resetting somewhere? Regards - J Quote
NikpV Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 it depends on the error - eg 5 flame outs need a reset but endless number of open-circuit errors do not : I think the criteria is whether the heater has fired up - if it has and been shutdown 5 times it will need resetting AFAIK Quote

big_kev Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 Am I right in thinking you can connect to the Aux. Heater with Vagcom on the MK2's ? I am sure you can't with the MK1's. Anyone know if this is true. Quote

I have an older VAG-COM interface (and using release 311-2) - this won't talk to the Ford engine. Maybe later ones do? Quote
Chris Young Posted June 29, 2007 Report Posted June 29, 2007 i have a mk2 and my vag com told me about repeated flame outs.Just took mine to fraud and got a whole new unit fitted. Quote
johnb80 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Report Posted July 2, 2007 Mine had a new one under warranty after 2 years, this one has now given up the ghost. Regards - J Quote
