Seems like a lorra lorra people can't add up

Does one add up to a 'lorra lorra'? Even then, it could have been that mk2sport was merely stating that he thought approximately

quoting you per wheel is bizarre because pads should always be replaced in axle pairs to prevent pulling to one side during heavy breaking.i am humming that song `how bizarre` to emphasise how bizarre the quote was-im assuming it wasnt a ford dealer that said it!

Buy yourself some decent pads and do it yourself. I'm a little fussy when it comes to brakes particularly in the cleaning and greasing, whereas garages tend to "wop" the new pads in and away you go. You could get a good set of discs and pads for that price and once you've learnt to do them once with help from a freind, you'll realise how easy it is.

Why do I always get these problems?

Brake warning light came on 50 miles into my journey to Belgium 3 weeks ago at 70,000miles from new.

Must be front brakes I thought. Bought front pads en route. Stripped down at journeys end and more than half of the friction material is left.

I was able to research the forum and plan ahead.

Yes, rears do wear faster than fronts. Still not explained but I have a theory. Time enough later for that however.

Inspected rears and they were down but had more than 3mm left so I waited until I arrived home yesterday.

Today bought rear pads and the rewind tool as specified by El Dingo, I paid special note to Sealey Left Hand Brake Wind Back Tool VS0243.

Spent over an hour struggling with it before I realised that the piston only rotated when I was winding the tool backwards to release it.

Also, I then noticed that the 2 prongs to lock into the piston on that tool are too close together to fit well into the slots. Maybe this defines the difference?

I was able to return and exchange for the Sealey Right Hand Brake Wind back tool VSO24 .

Yes it worked but was not as easy to retract as I expected even then as I needed to use the side of the retraction device with the two prongs which are closest together.

I have a 2002 1.9Tdi 115bhp Ghia Manufactured July ( I think). Even then I'm being asked what size of wheels does it have.

Yes 16inch wheels do have 2 type of pad fitted (apparently) front and rear.

Does anyone have definitive knowledge of the brake differences which exist on the Galaxy related to Engine or Chassis numbers for that year or other?

In my mind its a matter of safety and convenience for Forum members that this matter is advertised.

Also why the difference in the wind back tool. Surely this is the give away to the difference in brakes and pads?

Anyone know?

Did my front brakes last year. No special tool needed. Used a G-clamp to push back the pistons.

Did the rear brakes yesterday. Tried the pliers to push back while turning the pistons (as suggested in Hayes), LOL what a joke, had to go out and buy a Draper tool (DRAPER ABS BRAKE SERVICING TOOL 22349), cheaper than the Laser tool (above) and it worked fine.

Had to use a ratchet on the tool. Can't see how it is possible to do without a specific tool.

That and the brake hose clamp, sure makes light work of the job. Was easier than front.

I used Quinton Hazel pads on front and back.

The rears have to be turned to release because they are also the handbrake.

I managed to do mine with a G clamp and pliers to turn the piston.

Got mintex rear pads with sensors from a local motor factors for

I have been searching online for replacement front pads for my Galaxy, and have also noticed that there seem to be several specified for the 16inch wheel 1.9tdi Galaxy mk2. I've narrowed it down to two for the 115bhp model.

One set is specified as 156.3mm x 78.5mm and the other 156.3mm x 74mm.

I guess I'll have to take them out and measure them, but I was hoping to order them first. Anybody have a definitive list ?
