romseygalaxy Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 I need to change my front discs and pads. Done the rear pads without any hassle before. Never changed discs though. Is there any problems that I need to know about? Do this discs come off easily? I suppose I will have to bleed the whole system again and remove the bl**dy drip tray thing under the wipoer moter again? I haven't got ABS to worry about. Also my brake lights don't come on until the car has almost stopped I have been told this is common?. Quote
Richard gal Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 (edited) You can get the pads and discs off without bleeding, ... just remove caliper and pull out of the way, BUT! i found the pad sensor multiplug would not go through the gap between the small rigid pipe and caliper so had to loosen pipe a LITTLE. So long as the brake fluid isnt too full you should not need to touch it. Sounds like your brake light switch needs a squirt of WD40. Edited June 23, 2007 by Richard gal Quote
Dave-G Posted June 24, 2007 Report Posted June 24, 2007 The wiring doesn't need to go between the pipe and caliper, it was probably just assembled that way at the factory before the brake pipes were fitted. It's a good way to establish if the pads are those fitted from new as a sort of mileage check? My front pads lasted for 33k miles from new - I'm well pleased at that for an auto  Quote

The allen key bolts are the hardest bit to undo, but usually no problem. If you have too much brake fluid in the system open bleed valve a little whilst prising pads. JDF Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Hi lim, I'm pleased that you like the Front Brake Pad & Disk Change Report, the author was me - "JDF" not "JDE", but it doesn't matter!!!!Your pictures are good - I didn't have a camera available when I did mine. When I undid the caliper bracket nuts, I used a socket attached at 90deg (on a slide fitting) to my 12" extension bar so it is looks like a ratchet but without the ratchet mechanism. I then gave it a tap with a club hammer to loosen - saved using a long bar and any possible damage to paint work. Quote
