V6 Autobox Going Wrong......

the problem i got is the oil is getting into the water. but i need 2 know about the cooler, i think the bit thats on top ov the box is the cooler but i'm not sure if it is or how it works, so any help would b gr8.... just wounding if it could b an O ring or gasgit or something..

 

if i cant fix it i will b swapping it for a manual, so what 1 will fit and is there anything i should know 1st.....

yes that is the oil cooler for the gearbox, it's held on with 2 allan key bolts, under the 2 bolts is where oil enters the cooler & the 2 pipes allows water in to cool the oil but normally if the cooler has gone water will go into the gearbox and contaminate the oil, if this has happend and youv'e been driving it you will need a gearbox rebuild and a torque converter. I would also check that it is not engine oil thats in the water as thi is a different problem altogether :wacko:

thanks m8. its deffo gearbox oil and not engine oil. i know the diff its all in the smell m8 lol..

the thing is i would have thought the water would have got in the gearbox, but its not dont ask me how i ant got a clue. i've drand the box and its still fresh oil, no contaminacion (thats not how u spell it, but u know wot i'm on about lol). its the header tank thats showning all the signs with the mayo looking water. and its smells bad lol......... and it drives fine untill the oil level gose 2 low then it stops working, if i top it up it works again........ i just dont get y the oil is getting in the water, insted of the water getting in the gearbox its a strange 1 though..

could i remove the cooler as i'm not going 2 use it 2 tow, so should not need a cooler, or i'm i going all wrong about it, its my 1st auto as well, never worked on 1, got some idea how it work though but its not enough... give me a manual anyday i can rebuild them no probs lol..........

Well you have got a strange one!!

I wouldn't advice you 2 by pass the cooler, if you did do it you would have to join the 2 pipes & blank off the holes for the oil so even in hot weather you could have a problem.

Coolers on Galaxy's arn't common for going so you could try & get a secondhand 1 from the breakers

I take it you have check you engine oil level as well just to be sure ? :wacko:

engine oil was just checked and its the same as it was when i bought her, so its deffo not that (plus its smells like box oil lol)

 

it it true that hanes did not do a book for the galaxy??? if so where can i find the info i need???

never mind i got myself TIS cd-rom, fair play 2 it it awsome..... just need 2 know how much should i b looking at paying for a 2nd hand cooler, coz i'm going 2 try what Ige said 1st.

hello people just thought i'de come bk and let u know my findings, after removing the cooler i found it was full ov oil, it was pouring out ov the water section wich anit a good sign, anyway new cooler coming soon, just need 2 sort out the cash for it as i'm out of work ATM... and the price from fords is
